Trump asked DNI, NSA to deny evidence of Russian Federation collusion

The New York Times reported last week on a Comey memo indicating that Trump had urged him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. According to NBC, the former official said Rogers saw the request as a threat to the NSA, which is not a policy organization.

That, say intelligence officials, kicked off a series of attempts by Trump to have Coats and Rogers step forward to publicly undercut the investigation.

The Post's article is the latest in a series of revelations indicating that Trump and his associates have sought to intervene in the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

The White House has repeatedly insisted that a "thorough investigation will confirm that there was no collusion between the campaign and any foreign entity". Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is surrounded by reporters as he leaves a briefing of the full Senate by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, amid controversy over President Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey, a.

US intelligence agencies concluded in January that Moscow tried to sway the November vote in Trump's favor. Officials said participants got an average of $125 per month, while households got an average of $258. "The President will continue to focus on his agenda that he was elected to pursue by the American people".

Trump eventually fired Comey on May 9, but a memo eventually leaked documenting a conversation in which Comey alleged the president asked him to end an investigation into his first national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

"Can we ask him to shut down the investigation?"

"This cloud is impacting everything else", Rubio said, describing a number of questions, such as possible obstruction of justice, that are hanging over the White House.

Trump has previously indicated that the Russian Federation investigation was a motivating factor in his decision to fire Comey. The person also said Kasowitz may have had dinner with Trump on Thursday. Trump disputes those accounts. Smith called Trump's actions "an appalling abuse of power".

Rogers was taken aback but tried to respectfully explain why he could not do so, the officials said.

A reporter from NY magazine named Kushner as one of people with whom special investigators wanted to speak.

Intelligence officials have expressed that complying with the Trump Administration's request would have had a major, negative impact on the credibility for their agencies.

Rogers met with Trump in NY shortly after the election, and Trump's advisers at the time held him out as the leading candidate to be the next director of national intelligence.

At least one of the conversations - with NSA Director Rogers - was documented in a memorandum retained by the NSA. Coats was sworn in just days before the president made his request.

The report comes almost a week after it was reported that former FBI Director James Comey kept a memo about how Trump asked him to end a probe into Michael Flynn and Russian Federation. But in that case, the White House effort was created to refute news accounts, not the testimony of a sitting FBI director who was leading an open investigation. The report said Moscow eventually developed a preference for Trump. The previous director of national intelligence, James Clapper, testified before the Senate that he was unaware of the FBI's investigation. But that does not mean he has full visibility into the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe.
