Trump asked two intelligence chiefs to deny Russia collusion

Specifically, the Post reported that current and former intelligence officials described Trump making separate asks of Coats and Rogers to deny the existence of any evidence pointing to collusion during the 2016 campaign.

FBI Director James Comey testifies before the House Intelligence Committee on March 20, 2017 about President's Trump wiretapping claims and Trump's presidential campaign links to Russian hackers.

The New York Times reported last week on a Comey memo indicating that Trump had urged him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

In February, Trump asked several senior congressmen and intelligence officials to contact journalists and tell them there was no evidence to support the allegations of campaign links to Russian Federation. Trump departed Friday on his first global trip amid a flurry of leaks about his shocking behavior in the White House. "Are you able to assist in this matter?" one official said of the line of questioning from the White House.

"Mr. Comey was highly respected and highly regarded, so I can't explain it".

The revelations deepen the intrigue over alleged links between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation, and follow the President's firing of Comey and subsequent statement he sacked him because of the Russian Federation probe. "What do those memos say and why did you write them and what was your feeling?' The American public deserves to know the answers to that".

Rosenstein additionally told lawmakers he learned on May 8 - a day before his memorandum was sent - Trump was planning on firing Comey.

CNN's report comes just hours after The Washington Post published a similar report alleging the same thing - that Trump tried to stop the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russian Federation during the 2016 campaign by reaching out to national security officials.

President Trump reacted furiously to the appointment of Mueller, who is authorized, as special counsel, to bring criminal charges if he believes they are warranted.

Intelligence officials have expressed that complying with the Trump Administration's request would have had a major, negative impact on the credibility for their agencies.

The committee said an interview could entail discussing "Russian cyber activities directed against the 2016 USA election, potential links between Russia and individuals associated with political campaigns, the United States government's response to these Russian active measures, and related leaks of classified information". The Washington Post reports that NSA officials are prepared to make it available to House and Senate committees investigating the issue as well as former FBI Director Robert Mueller's investigation.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, said a senior Trump adviser is now being considered a "person of interest" in the law enforcement investigation into whether Trump's campaign coordinated with Russian Federation to sway the election. This is exactly the same kind of FBI investigation interference that forced Nixon out of the White House and shocked his Republican allies out of defending him.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the House committee probing Russian Federation, said leakers shouldn't be tolerated.
