Trump meets Palestinian leader in Bethlehem

Since his remarks during the Abbas visit and especially since it was announced that Trump would visit Israel during his first worldwide trip as president less than four months after taking office - his predecessors Obama and Bush both visited Israel during their second term - there has been speculation about whether the president would use his Israel trip to officially re-launch the stalled US initiative to broker a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians.

On Tuesday, Trump is scheduled to meet with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem.

"The terrorists and extremists and those who give them aid and comfort must be driven out from our society forever", Trump said in Bethlehem alongside Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Abbas also reiterated his commitment to creating an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and which lives in peace with Israel.

Former Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell said that Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia "have increasingly awakened to the reality that their real challenge comes not from Israel, but rather from Iran".

Both Netanyahu and Abbas have separately visited Trump in Washington since he took office.

The call came shortly after Mr Trump denounced those responsible for the atrocity as "evil losers" and called for the ideology behind the outrage to be "completely obliterated".

"On the issue of our Palestinian prisoners who have been on hunger strike for more than a month, a few meters from here near the Church of the Nativity and everywhere in Palestine, the mothers and families of the prisoners suffer from not being able to visit their children".

In Jerusalem, Trump says Iran must stop backing 'terrorists' immediately
Zarif also criticised Trump's arms deal and other investments with Saudi Arabia worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Muslim nations must take on the burden of defeating terrorism, he also said.

After meetings with Arab leaders in Saudi Arabia, the president has been pushing the prospect of peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Rabbi of the Western Wall Shmuel Rabinowitz said he and Trump recited two psalms.

It is a stark symbol for Palestinians of Israel's 50-year occupation of the West Bank, and in Bethlehem the wall has been covered with graffiti and street art.

Later Tuesday, Trump will visit the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem, where he will deliver a speech. He'll then head to Rome ahead of his meeting Wednesday at the Vatican with Pope Francis.

During his visit to Israel, President Donald Trump will stay in an "armored suite" in Jerusalem's King David Hotel that is capable of withstanding nearly any kind of attack, The Hill reported Saturday.

Trump advocated during his campaign breaking with decades of precedent and moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, deeply alarming Palestinians. Trump approached alone and placed his hand on the stone. And he sent a signal of solidarity to an ally he's pushing to work harder toward peace with the Palestinians.

He cast uncertainty over years of worldwide efforts to foster a two-state solution when he met Netanyahu at the White House in February. He unexpectedly offered a new defense of his disclosure of classified information to Russian diplomats.

"So you have another story wrong", he told reporters. He also faces difficulties at home, where he is struggling to contain a scandal after firing James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director two weeks ago.
