'Windows 10 is only OS safe from WannaCry', says Microsoft

Wanna Cry took over victim's computers and encrypted all their files, only releasing them once a ransom was paid using Bitcoin, the popular digital currency.

On Sunday, Microsoft's Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith censured the USA government and stated the cyberattack demonstrates the risks of spy offices "stockpiling" these security flaws in the form of weapons.

The numbers sound even more alarming considering that, according to Net Market Share, 48.5 percent of computer systems in the world still use Windows 7, while only 26.28 percent have the latest Windows 10 operating system. The victims of WannaCry ransomware should not reboot their machines after the infection is in because, this way, the prime numbers may be overwritten in the system memory which will lower the chances of the decryptor being efficient. As we have mentioned many times, the patches for this vulnerability were launched last March and being an operating system that still has support, if users had installed such updates then they would not have been infected by this ransomware. It also won't work if WannaCry permanently locks the files after the one-week deadline has passed, he said. This tool needs Python 2.7 to run. Pyongyang is threatening a sixth nuclear test.A second email by the U.N. sanctions committee secretary to the 15 Security Council members on May 10 said the U.N. Office of Information and Communications Technology was "conducting an analysis of the affected hard drive".

Delpy told Reuters he had been contacted by banking, energy and government intelligence agencies from European countries and India for the fix.

The findings varied according to different methods employed by various security firms, but security ratings firm BitSight also found 67 percent of infections had hit Windows 7, according to Reuters.

"The exploit technique is known as HeapSpraying and is used to inject shellcode into vulnerable systems allowing for the exploitation of the system", the firm said in an advisory.

Both EternalBlue and DoublePulsar were allegedly developed by the NSA before being leaked to the public by a hacking group called Shadow Brokers. Microsoft has already patched the flaw but users are strongly advised to install an anti-malware program to help to fight the ransomware attacks.
