More than half of voters believe President Donald Trump is abusing the powers of the presidency, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

A Gallup Poll in September, 2016, found that trust in media had dropped to record lows, with only 32 percent saying they trusted the media "to report the news fully, accurately and fairly".

On the issue of his decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey, Americans were split - 49 percent said it was an abuse of power, while 47 said it wasn't.

A total of 66 percent of voters favor the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate alleged ties between Trump campaign advisers and the Russian government.

Trump's honesty ratings are also in jeopardy.

Republicans approve of the job Trump is doing: 84 percent.

Not only does Trump continue to get strident support from Republicans, 86 percent do not think the president is abusing his powers. An investigation by Newsweek found that "fake news" was amongst the topics most frequently addressed by the president in his first 100 days in office.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,404 voters nationwide from May 17-23 with a margin of error or plus or minus 3 percentage points.
