Golden State Warriors return to Oakland with Western Conference championship trophy

As something it can build upon, or a message that this team has a long way to go to reach Golden State's current level? These Kevin Durant-reinforced Warriors: they beat everybody. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are considered to be three of the NBA's best players.

On Monday night, Durant went out and scored 29 points on 10-for-13 shooting as the Warriors blew past the Spurs again to sweep the Western Conference Finals.

"It makes the game fun", Durant said.

Ginobili, who turns 40 on July 27, said after the game he hasn't decided whether he'll retire or return for his 16th season with the Spurs. The above graphic is actually slightly incorrect - it was the 1989 Lakers that started their playoffs 11-0, not the 1987 Lakers.

The Argentine has not said yet if Monday's loss of 128-115 to the Golden State Warrior was the last game he would play on an National Basketball Association stage, but it felt as if it could be.

They will now face defending champions Cleveland Cavaliers or Boston Celtics, with the Cavaliers leading the Eastern Conference finals 2-1.

Life has been good to the Golden State Warriors the past three seasons.

Make no mistake, legacies will be on the line once the Cavaliers inevitably join the Dubs in the championship round.

"We started him tonight out of respect", San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. They have down years-which is to say they go for fifty-plus wins and a first-round playoff exit-but they are constantly retooling, only ever briefly settling into a rut. The 82-game sample size of the regular season is a better indicator than a seven-game series, particularly one that came down to quite literally the last minute of play. They've never been to the finals with this core of players, and Isaiah Thomas is out for the rest of the postseason with a hip injury. They don't just play with talent, they execute on the defensive end of the floor. On offense, no team is more unselfish finding the open man. Coaches are always trying to get their teams to do that.

The Warriors have shown their strength by blasting through the playoffs in the normally rugged West. Golden State held San Antonio, Utah and Portland to 102 points and averaged 9.2 steals per game.

Jonathon Simmons of the San Antonio Spurs drives to the basket against Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors in the first half during Game Four of the 2017 NBA Western Conference Finals at AT&T Center on Monday. "I told him the other day, 'I don't even want to talk about or think about anything other than winning this championship. I have to choose between two wonderful, and truly wonderful options". So I thought he was pretty darned good. "Then I'll sit down with my wife and see how it feels".

"No excuses but a lot of unfortunate things happened, but we still tried to compete and do the best we could do", Aldridge said.

As a 23-year-old playing with the Thunder. Rather, Spurs fans need to appreciate the effort and competitive spirit displayed by this rag-tag group of rookies, role players and over-exerted veterans.

"He called, we talked, we laughed", Brown said.

"Those have been the easiest, the easiest to digest because you've been overplayed", Ginobili said of the two sweeps in the conference finals.
