Real Madrid wins first La Liga crown since 2012

Barcelona, chasing a third straight title and their fourth in five years, finished second on 90 points after coming from two goals down to beat Eibar 4-2 at home.

Despite the happiness of winning the domestic title, Ronaldo slammed the media for projecting him what he's not, saying he's "not a devil".

Malaga's attitude ahead of the game had been questioned after comments by their coach Michel that he would have preferred his former club had won the league before their visit to La Rosaleda to give them a guard of honor. "We were not consistent enough", Enrique said. "We may win more things, but it is the happiest day for me". A lot of people didn't want Real Madrid to win La Liga, but we fought right until the last. I'll be forever grateful for the affection they've shown me.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane hailed his side's first La Liga title in five years after a 2-0 win in Malaga on Sunday. "We have had a smarter management, with the help of the coach and the players who have played less".

Zidane also played for Italian club Juventus, who Real meet in the Champions League final in Cardiff on June 3.

"Everything is decided at the end of the season and Zidane has managed the team very well, and we also have a great, young squad", Ronaldo said after the 4-1 win at Celta Vigo which took Real to the brink of the title.

Meanwhile, captain Sergio Ramos described La Liga as "the best league in the world" as Real Madrid clinched it for a record 33rd time. Cristiano Ronaldo made the difference in the last month of competition, whereas Luka Modric or Toni Kroos are showing again a great level in the midfield.

"I did the hardest part, which was to score the first goal and then the second", Ronaldo said.

"The proof is there".

Meanwhile, Barcelona are ready to reveal the identity of the head coach chosen to succeed Enrique at the Nou Camp after watching their La Liga crown head to Madrid.

"We have reached the end of the season with the opportunity to win two titles". On May 27, Barcelona will face off against Alaves in the final of the Copa del Rey.

Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde is reportedly the front-runner to take the reins from Enrique who, after three largely successful campaigns, has made a decision to move on.
