Timberwolves are targeting Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose will be a free agent this summer for the first time in his National Basketball Association career, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as a team that views him as a potential free-agent target, according to a report from ESPN. Begley added in his Knicks' offseason piece that "some in the organization" were hopeful about revisiting the trade deadline attempt to acquire Rubio during the offseason.

Now set to become a free agent this upcoming summer, it appears that the Wolves are interested in signing Rose outright.

If we thought the rumors surrounding a reunion between Tom Thibodeau and Derrick Rose were over, we're apparently wrong.

Begley also reported in February that the Knicks were looking to trade Rose to the Timberwolves for guard Ricky Rubio, to no avail; Minnesota was resistant on giving up the second part of the package deal, whether it came in the form of a draft pick or another player. He tore his ACL in the first game of the 2012 playoffs, missed the entire 2012-13 season and only played 10 games in 2013-14.

Chicago traded Rose to the Knicks previous year, and he posted his best statistical season since 2011-12 with 18 points per game in 64 contests.

The Timberwolves need depth at point guard behind Rubio.

Last season, Rose averaged 18 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 64 games for the Knicks.
