Usmanov makes £1bn Arsenal takeover bid

This was contained in a statement to the Stock Exchange on Monday.

Arsenal Football Club's 67% owner Stan Kroenke has officially rejected a rumoured £2bn takeover bid from Uzbeki billionaire shareholder Alisher Usmanov.

Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, who owns 30 percent of Arsenal shares, reportedly offered £1 billion to Kroenke for his stake in the club.

'KSE is a committed, long term investor in Arsenal and will remain so'.

This is not the first such buyout attempt made by Usmanov, and there were rumblings that after this disappointing season when Arsenal look likely to miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time in 20 years, Kroenke would want to sell out. In an interview with Bloomberg last month, Usmanov said the blame for the club's performance should not rest exclusively with Wenger, but also with Kroenke and the board, from which Mr. Usmanov is excluded.

Wenger has confirmed his future will be clarified after a board meeting following the match at Wembley, and Seaman hopes he remains despite growing calls for him to leave.

He has a fractious relationship with Kroenke and last month he claimed that the club's issues should not be placed exclusively at the door of manager Arsene Wenger.

The Financial Times reported Usmanov made the offer last month, and that Kroenke has yet to formally respond.

With the Gunners preparing for Europa League action next season, the only thing which could save Kroenke and Co. from more unrest over the summer is if Arsenal beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Both "Silent Stan", as Kroenke has been disparagingly nicknamed by some supporters, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger came under fire during s Premier League campaign that ended with the Gunners finishing fifth on Sunday.

"Everyone talking about our cash reserves, it's gonna take more than 235 million to get us back winning Premier league or CL".

"I respect Stan Kroenke a lot".
