Pogba: 'We played for the people who died'

Manchester United's Paul Pogba took a step towards helping repay his world record transfer fee with the opening goal in their Europa League win over Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday which gave them a place in next season's lucrative Champions League.

"That's how we felt before the game, that's how we feel now".

"But the world goes on, it doesn't stop and we have to do our work". After the last game, when we played against Celta Vigo in the second leg, I was dreaming every day that I would score in the final.

United manager Jose Mourinho told reporters: "If we could, we would obviously change the people's lives for this cup, immediately".

The win helped the Red Devils secure a berth in the group stages of the Champions League next year.It was United's third title of the season, adding to their silverware won in the League Cup and the Community Shield earlier in the season.

"I knew people who were at the concert, so it's not easy, it's not a nice moment - not just for Manchester but for the whole of England, and we all felt that. We had to do a job". I supported the team, but what matters is that we won.

United became only the fifth club - after Juventus, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Chelsea - to have won the Champions League, the Europa League and the now defunct European Cup Winners' Cup.

Mourinho said: "For me, it is the most important trophy of my career because it is the last". That's the way I look at things. Champions League football will swiftly follow in September, fulfilling an ambition that Rashford and his team-mates began the current 64-match campaign with. "We did that very well from the first minute and we totally deserve the trophy".

"We're obviously disappointed", the Dutchman said. I am so happy to see the boys with the crutches with the trophy and now I am on holiday. We only got second balls. I think I understand what is right and what is needed for the club, and I respect that. I am very happy in my most hard season as a manager.

"We feel a bit proud to have done that. They put on a block and stayed away from everything and concentrated on a football match, which we did very well".

This trophy is for you, #MANCHESTER.????❤️.
