The 128 women in the draw have won a total of three French Open titles (one each to Svetlana Kuznetsova, Francesca Schiavone and reigning champion Garbine Muguruza), or one-third the total of Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic, who plays claycourter Granollers in round one, will have former champion Andre Agasssi in his corner after hiring the American as his coach at the French. In the women's draw Czech Petra Kvitova, who has not played competitive tennis since being stabbed during a burglary at her home last December, was included as 15th seed thanks to her protected ranking. She assures fans she will, but once her baby comes, will Serena Williams really make her way back?

Having dominated the clay court season in 2017, you wouldn't want to bet against the great man completing that La Decima, not too long after his beloved Real Madrid did the same with European Cup/Champions League titles. In four clay court tournaments this year, Andy Murray has won just five matches.

"So maybe they have just come in a small space of time". But what I see on the court, I don't like. "There is no reason for it from my end. I believe I will".

British tennis star Andy Murray and former coach Ivan Lendl. "It was one of my most special feelings". He has struggled in that time, as his last grand slam title was the 2014 French Open. "It brings back memories from previous year", Djokovic said at the draw ceremony. However, the first half of 2017 has been underwhelming.

Konta, making her third appearance at the event, is still searching for her first win in Paris but is brimming with confidence following her Miami Open win earlier this year. A stunning fourth round defeat to Mischa Zverev in the fourth round at the Australian open wasn't a mere aberration as Murray has fallen subsequently to players ranked several rungs below such as Vasek Pospisil, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Dominic Thiem, Borna Coric and Fognini.

"Movement the last two weeks has not been good", he explained.

"That is what worked a year ago, that was part of the deal". I have been surprised it's lasted this long, but the reasons may just be he's not 100 per cent healthy.

Ivan Lendl spent the early part of the session seated in the stand as Murray swore and threw his racket down. But considering we haven't seen Federer play on clay this year, and the fact that historically he gets destroyed by Nadal on clay, it seems more than likely that Nadal will sweep the clay court season this year. It was under Lendl's tutelage that Murray won his first Wimbledon title in 2013.

There have been quite a few top names that won't feature in this year's tournament.

It is 47-year-old Agassi's first taste of coaching at the top level and he follows the likes of Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, Michael Chang and McEnroe himself into the players' box.

The 26-year-old said: "I guess it's a situation that's slightly unique to me and something that I have experienced over the last two years as I have been playing a lot of tournaments". He is convinced another strong showing isn't beyond the realm of possibility. I'm excited to get out there and compete.
