Arsenal Beat Chelsea, Win Record 13th FA Cup

#1 Controversy behind Alexis Sanchez's opener - Handball or Offside or both? They now hold the most titles in the tournament, ahead of Manchester United at 11.

Over a year after Per Mertesacker last started for Arsenal, the German defender came in from the cold to provide the inspiration for his side's dramatic FA Cup final victory over Chelsea on Saturday. "Let us enjoy this win and not worry about the future", he said afterward.

It meant no glorious farewell for departing skipper John Terry, who bows out on 717 appearances and 17 major honours after spending the match on the bench.

In the first half alone he made a handful of crucial interceptions and won countless headers to blunt the physical presence of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

"There is disappointment for the final result, but our season was incredible".

"Next season we must pay great attention to understand that we have to improve the numbers and quality of the squad".

"Of course every player wants to play more, it is in the genes of a Victor and I am one of them".

Arsenal took a fourth-minute lead with a goal that will be debated long after the final whistle.

Ramsey didn't touch the ball but was remarkably close to it when Sanchez raced through to score.

Replays showed there was no contact and that the referee was correct to dismiss the Nigerian full-back.

The goal rocked Chelsea and Arsenal scented their chance with Ozil having a shot back-heeled off the line by Gary Cahill before Danny Welbeck's header thumped against the post and Ramsey bundled the ball back against the same upright.

And with Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel all unavailable at the weekend, Arsenal's last resort turned in an epic display of strength, defiance and cool-headedness.

But Arsenal continued to threaten on the break and in the 68th minute the momentum tilted yet further in their direction.

The Nigerian worldwide was sent off after diving in an attempt to win a penalty, giving referee Anthony Taylor no choice but to produce a second yellow card.

Chelsea started the second half with more tempo and Footballer of the Year N'Golo Kante warmed David Ospina's fingers with a deflected drive from distance before Moses brought a fine save from Ospina after Costa played him in.

Ospina thwarted Costa and Ozil hit the post after cutting inside Cesar Azpilicueta, but just as in the 2014 final against Hull City, Ramsey's goal was to prove the victor.
