British police release photo of Manchester bomber Salman Abedi

Police have said they have arrested a large part of the network behind the bombing, which killed 22 people at a concert hall, and two more men were arrested on Saturday as police continued to close in on the group.

Prime Minister Theresa May said developments in the investigation into the bombing meant intelligence experts had chose to lower the threat level from its highest rating "critical", meaning an attack could be imminent, to "severe".

In the pictures he can be seen wear a black puffer jacket, a grey cap, and carrying a backpack.

The 22-year-old, of Libyan origin, was born in the northwestern English city.

One of the searches was at an apartment in a Manchester high-rise that British media say was rented by Abedi in the months before the attack.

"The flat is highly relevant as a location which we believe may be the final assembly place for the device".

"We should be clear about what this means: A threat level of severe means an attack is highly likely, the country should remain vigilant", she said.

In a statement released on Saturday night, hours after the terrorism threat level in the United Kingdom was reducedfrom critical to severe, Greater Manchester's police chief, constable, Ian Hopkins and its deputy assistant commissioner, Neil Basu, senior national co-ordinator United Kingdom counter-terrorism policing, said the investigation was making good progress.

After the bombing Britain raised its official threat status from terrorism to the top level, "critical" - meaning another attack may be imminent.

On the day the United Kingdom terror threat level was reduced from "critical" to "severe", which officially means that an attack is deemed "highly likely" rather than "expected imminently", police said they had made good progress in their investigation so far.

The attack, which has been claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group, targeted concertgoers at the end of a show by U.S. teen pop idol Ariana Grande.

The development came as a vast security operation gets under way to protect hundreds of Spring Bank Holiday events across Britain this weekend. The troops will gradually be withdrawn from Monday, May said.

May argues that the government has increased funding for security and intelligence agencies. We have around 1,000 people involved in the investigation alone.

May attempted to hit back Saturday, announcing the new "Commission for Countering Extremism", saying that "enough is enough - we need to be stronger and more resolute in standing up to these people".

More than 1,000 armed police are on standby as major spectacles, including the FA Cup Final at Wembley and the Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham, are expected to draw tens of thousands of people into public spaces today.
