United Kingdom police say 'large part of network' behind Manchester attack arrested

British police arrested a seventh person on Wednesday in connection with the massacre at a Manchester pop concert that left 22 people dead.

He said police now have a "much better understanding" of what happened.

Abedi's family remained a focus, too, with a brother in England, his father and another brother in Libya among those being detained. Abedi often complained that the British were "unjust to the Arabs".

The Prime Minister, who will chair a session on counter-terrorism, will argue that as so-called Islamic State loses ground in its heartlands in Iraq and Syria, the threat from extremism is "evolving rather than disappearing" with the fight moving from "the battlefield to the internet".

Ariana Grande, 23, extended her deepest condolences to all those suffering after the Manchester attack.

"My daughter was trying to reverse her auto near his house one day and she asked him would he move for a minute while she reversed it". If it did then the terrorists will win. He ordered Salman and Hashem to move to Libya a few weeks ago - an order which the young men complied with, but apparently failed to stop them from carrying out the Manchester attack. It was unclear whether Abedi was under surveillance as recently as the attack.

Days later, she issued a one page letter expressing her condolences for the victims and their families. The American singer didn't announce a date for the concert. The tour will restart June 7 in Paris.

A total of nine men are being held on suspicion of offences violating the Terrorism Act. All are men, aged between 18 and 44.

'We should be clear about what this means: A threat level of severe means an attack is highly likely, the country should remain vigilant, ' she said.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said the level of activity in the probe is "intense" and continuing "at pace".

Sources said the family are from Cheshire.

Such redundancy, if the object was the switch, could give the bomber or a cell more than one option for deploying the device, and suggests that the bomb was not as simple in design as many terrorist devices, which often are crude and prone to failure or haphazard effect.

Extra armed police will guard major sporting events, including the FA Cup final at Wembley, and popular tourist attractions.

He said fans coming to soccer and rugby matches this weekend should come earlier than usual because of added security screening.

A former classmate told the BBC that Abedi was a "very jokey lad" but also "very short tempered" and would get angry at "the littlest thing".

British police working on the case have resumed intelligence-sharing with US counterparts after a brief halt because of anger over leaks to USA media thought by Britain to be coming from USA officials.

British government is furious over leaks of details about investigation into blast.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met United Kingdom foreign secretary Boris Johnson in London today and said the US took "full responsibility" for the leaks.

The Manchester bomber's sister has claimed he was driven to murder because he wanted revenge for "the explosives America drops on children in Syria".

The allegations clashed with what Abedi's father said a day earlier in an interview.

A delay of about 36 hours, before the public know who police are investigating, can allow known associates of the suspect to be arrested before they know police are looking for them. "There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better", she began her note.

"We greatly value the important relationships we have with our trusted intelligence, law enforcement and security partners around the world", the National Counter Terrorism Policing office said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

Rob Harris reported from Manchester.
