Virender Sehwag and Anil Kumble have been great servants of Indian cricket, winning many matches for the team during their playing days.

Anil Kumble, who now holds the position, will have to go through the selection process again once his tenure ends after the Champions Trophy in England next month. According to the 42-year-old, the legendary India batsman's experience will come in handy, as well as the fact that he is now coaching India A, the country's Under-19 side and the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL). "But he won't be the only one applying because we expect other former players to also throw their hats in the ring", a top BCCI official was quoted as saying to Indian Express.

However, the report also stated that Sehwag informed the Express that he has not been contacted by anyone for the same.

Kumble and Kohli were reportedly unhappy with the payment the players and coaches received and wanted a substantial increase in the same.

Sehwag does not really have any coaching experience under him apart from being the mentor of the Kings XI Punjab side in the IPL this year.

All those interested need to apply for the job before May 31, after which they will have to undergo a process of selection under the committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

Anil Kumble is expected to push for the renewal of his contract which expires later in June.

The entire process of selecting the coach will be overlooked by the Rahul Johri, who is the CEO of the BCCI.

"It's not my decision to make and it depends on what BCCI are looking for", Ponting said.

Kumble, whose 1-year stint ends post Champions Trophy, has won five straight Test series, and helped the team rise to the No. 1 position in Tests. However, in an interesting turn of events, two legends might be facing off each other to grab the post of Indian team's coach very soon.
