London 'furious' at USA for Manchester bomb probe leaks

Police are hunting for a possible bomb-maker after the 22-year-old attacker, British-born Salman Abedi, detonated a sophisticated device at a concert venue packed with children on Monday night, killing 22 people.

Theresa May has said she will make clear to Donald Trump that intelligence shared between America and Britain "must remain secure" after Greater Manchester Police stopped passing details to their United States colleagues.

Home secretary Amber Rudd had publicly rebuked U.S. officials for naming the suspected suicide bomber, Salman Abedi, hours before the GMP did on Tuesday.

But Manchester United fans stood together in defiant mood as their team's triumph in European football's Europa League final brought some much-needed smiles to a city still in pain.

Grande herself, who has returned to her hometown in Florida, tweeted the morning after the attack, which left 22 dead and 59 injured, "broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words".

On Wednesday, photographs purportedly showing bloodstained fragments of Abedi's homemade bomb, including what seemed to be the remains of the device's battery and detonator, appeared in the New York Times, hours after home secretary Amber Rudd asked U.S. authorities not to leak material.

"Leaking information it's something on the level of intelligence services it's not done".

A former British intelligence chief, who requested anonymity, said of USA sources, "They don't understand the complexities of just blurting it out, and the reasons not to".

In a statement, a spokesperson for the National Counter Terrorism Policing underscored the importance of the trust between USA and British law enforcement officials and said "when that trust is breached it undermines these relationships, and undermines our investigations and the confidence of victims, witnesses and their families". The Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) terror organization has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. Critics accuse Belhaj and other members of the group of maintaining secretive links with Islamist groups. Abedi is now a manager of the Central Security force in Tripoli. He is also believed to have been in Germany before, having flown from Frankfurt Airport to Britain in 2015.

"I think it's very clear that this is a network that we are investigating and as I've said, it continues at pace", Chief Ian Hopkins said Wednesday.

Manchester police has said, according to local media, that one of the men was arrested following a property search in the Withington area of Manchester, while another was detained elsewhere in the city.

Sky News said the two Islamists worshipped at Didsbury Mosque in the leafy Manchester suburbs, where trustees on Wednesday decried the "horrific atrocity" at the arena and denied any links to extremism.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has disclosed that Abedi was known to British intelligence prior to the attack, but did not make clear why no action was taken.

The official threat level in Britain was raised after the Manchester attack to "critical", its highest level, meaning a further attack could be imminent. As a result, thousands of British troops are being deployed in the streets, replacing police officers in guarding key sites. Mrs.

It was the deadliest attack in Britain since July 2005, when four British Muslim suicide bombers killed 52 people in coordinated attacks on London's transportation network.

The US president, who was due to receive a dressing down from Theresa May at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, declared the security lapse a "grave threat to our national security".

After the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit, May is heading to the G7 gathering in Italy on Friday.

The Daily Mail newspaper published photos of a sullen Grande, wearing sweatpants and carrying a backpack, getting off a private jet Tuesday in her hometown of Boca Raton, Florida.

Former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott became the first major British politician to suggest that it was time to review all of the UK's intelligence sharing with the US.

The bombing came just over two weeks before a snap general election set for June 8. Campaigning will resume on Friday.
