Ariana Grande pens open letter about Manchester attack, promises benefit show

British security forces raided an apartment building Wednesday in central Manchester as they investigated "a network" of people allegedly behind the city's concert bombing.

Earlier, a 44-year-old man was arrested in connection with the suicide attack on a concert in Manchester.

On Monday, Abedi, born in Manchester to a Libyan family, walked into the lobby of the Manchester Arena and detonated a homemade bomb at the end of the Grande concert.

And his older brother, Ismail, was detained in Chorlton, south Manchester, on Tuesday.

Suspected Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi had expressed a desire to avenge the killing of a friend in the British city a year ago, a source close to his family said on Thursday (May 25).

"The police will be the first to know", he said before Friday afternoon prayers.

The development will raise further questions for the security services as to how the 22-year-old bomber was allowed to slip through the net and travel easily around Europe without apparently being on a terror watchlist.

"(The goal) is to make our city as hostile an environment as possible for terrorists to plan and operate", said London Police Commander Jane Connors.

Police believe they have identified a core number of Abide's associates in the city but have not ruled out finding further leads as the inquiry continues.

While some claim Salman Abedi had been banned from the mosque he attended for statements glorifying terrorism and his angry rhetoric even prompted an acquaintance to report him to the authorities, others deny that account, saying he never showed any worrying or erratic behavior. A British official said Manchester police have decided not to share further information on the probe with the United States because of leaks blamed on USA officials.

The British Prime Minister's comments came on the same day British media reported that United Kingdom police would stop sharing information about the suicide bombing with the U.S., after United Kingdom police bosses claimed the leaks had jeopardised their investigation. They issued a statement on her behalf which said, in part, "Our way of life has once again been threatened but we will overcome this together".

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has paid tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing that killed 22 people and left dozens wounded.

The allegations clashed with what Abedi's father said a day earlier in an interview with the AP. France's interior minister said Abedi is believed to have also traveled to Syria and had "proven" links with the Islamic State group. A further 23 people remain in critical care across several hospitals.

British Prime Minister Theresa May, who spoke about the matter with U.S. President Donald Trump at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, said the countries' partnership on defense and security was built on trust.

Rudd said Britain's increased official threat level will remain at "critical" until security services are convinced there is no active plot in place.
