It's a big 'no' to bilateral cricket with Pakistan

According to the aforementioned MoU, India were scheduled to tour Pakistan in 2015 and host a return series in 2017.

The meeting between the top BCCI and PCB officials ended without any conclusive outcome after the Indian government today refused to give clearance for any bilateral series with Pakistan.

Sports Minister Vijay Goel today said there was no need for the Indian board officials to meet their Pakistani counterparts when they knew the bilateral cricketing ties were subject to clearance from the government. "I had said earlier also that the possibilities of bilateral series with Pakistan are very remote", Goel told reporters in New Delhi. The arch-rivals from the Sub-continent will meet each other in a group clash of the upcoming Champions Trophy in Edgbaston, Birmingham on June 4. "We have, however, no say on multilateral events (ICC tournaments)".

The BCCI, represented by joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and GM (Cricket Operations) MV Sridhar met with their Pakistani counterparts to discuss the pressing issues including the United States dollars 60 million compensation demanded by the PCB. "So the two countries will continue to play each other in such tournaments", Goel said.

"India, Pakistan can not play bilateral series till cross-border terror from Pakistan [stops]. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and its outcome will be shared with the members of their respective boards", said a brief statement from BCCI joint secretary Amitabh Choudhary.

The cash-strapped PCB's finances heavily depend on a series with India which would mean a financial windfall for the nation, where no global cricketing activity has taken place since the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team.

Since then, worsening political ties and accusations of terrorism leveled at Pakistan have stalled bilateral cricket.

"We have discussed this with some of the leading legal minds around, both in Pakistan and overseas, and all of them agree we are in a position to take legal action against the BCCI if they do not play us in a series hosted by us", Sethi had said, discussing the MoU signed by the two boards.
