Kerr to miss NBA Finals opener

Missed championship? That's new.

A punch to the groin will keep the Golden State Warriors from completing the greatest three-year run in National Basketball Association history next month.

Stephen Curry's miraculous rise: overshadowed by a bum knee.

Some would even argue that Curry's 2016-17 regular season didn't live up to the lofty standards he has set.

Heading into June, the feeling remains fresh for Warriors fans. Cleveland has the second-highest percentage of field goals that are three-point shots this season and they lead all playoff teams in three-point shots made per game and per 100 possessions. 3-1 hasn't gone away.

Known in the league as "DNP-Rest", the practice of sitting healthy players to avoid injury and fatigue has grown in popularity as teams focus more on reducing the wear and tear on the stars that drive the league.

Last year, the Golden State Warriors were undeniably phenomenal, breaking records left, right and centre, regular and postseason. No player in National Basketball Association history had ever done what James did during those Finals. The award went to reserve Andre Iguodala. Many considered his absence the turning point as the Warriors squandered a 3-1 series lead.

Curry is the lone weak link for the Warriors on defense - at least on their crunch-time lineup, affectionately dubbed the "Hamptons 5" by the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami.

The addition of Kevin Durant slowed down Curry. The same can be said for Klay Thompson and Durant. Again, I totally get it, but I would just like that further discussed. He averaged 28 PPG on 60 percent shooting against the Spurs in the Western Conference finals. The Cavaliers have the fourth-highest points per game average (109.5) and the sixth-highest shooting percentage (46 percent) on the road. The Cavaliers conceded the second-most unguarded shots per game in the playoffs but were fortunate that opponents struggled against them. It's a duel for one successor, one failure.

The ending of February was tough.

We have also seen Steph Curry comfortable with his shot and hit from anywhere on the court. He was nailing them and playing some of his best ball of the season. So he'll remain sidelined until he is - and the Warriors will remain wondering when, or if, that day will come this season. None of those teams are the Warriors.

14 - Fourteen television networks will broadcast The Finals remotely for the first time: GreatSports Channel (China), DAZN (Germany), LeSports (Hong Kong), DAZN (Japan), Kwesé Sports (Pan-Africa), NBA TV - MEO (Portugal), (Russia), Eleven Sports Network (Singapore), (Sweden), (Taiwan), AIS Play (Thailand), NBA TV - Turkcell TV (Turkey), S Spor (Turkey) and VTVcab (Vietnam). Does Draymond Green need redemption after last year's series-altering suspension?

The talk then shifted towards San Antonio.

Should the Warriors head back to Cleveland with the series tied 1-1, they'll understand this "overwhelming favorite" narrative more. As risky as it is to bet against LeBron, the Warriors will win in 6.

The back-to-back MVP was considered by many the best basketball player alive previous year.

Sure, the Cleveland Cavaliers might have completed their historic comeback anyway. His rival, Kyrie Irving has gotten better than past year.

Will LeBron James ever catch up to Jordan's titles? He is one of the top ten all-time scorers in NBA History.

How does playing on the road impact the biggest stars?
