Killeen: State Veterans Cemetery hosts Memorial Day observance

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Jacqueline Braun, President of Rolling Thunder NC-3 said, "today is not about barbecues, today is about honoring our veterans".

Veterans Day honors all Veterans who have served in the armed forces - Memorial Day honors people who died while in battle.

A World War II veteran holds his salute while the Rocky Mountain Scots play "Amazing Grace" and white doves are released during Monday's Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

It's easy to get caught up in Memorial Day being about a three-day weekend and stores having big sales, but Memorial Day is a day when we remember and honor the fearless men and women who've given their lives in service of the United States through their participation in our nation's military.

Proudly singing our Nation's hymn is how many spent Memorial Day.

As the states began to declare it a holiday it began to take on different names, including Memorial Day. "They're coming around now, and it's a good thing". The flags honor the men and women who risked their own lives to protect others and the liberties that come with living in the United States. "They value life, and so they bravely give themselves to die in the service of our country".

"I thought the program went well". "Our district, New York's 21st district, has the highest number of veterans out of any other district in NY state, so to see the outpouring of support of community members and veterans going back to World War II is really humbling", Stefanik said. On behalf of America's federal workers - half of whom work directly with our nation's military - we salute our fallen heroes and thank the men and women who are now serving around the world to defend the United States.

A few years back, when a Times Review editor visited a national cemetery for a Memorial Day story, he stumbled upon a Vietnam veteran and cemetery caretaker.

"We have men and women in the war on terror who serve today and who are in harm's way, so keep them in your prayers today and everyday", said Sen. "Thank you for giving us the freedom that we are now enjoying".

"Honoring veterans, our deceased veterans and our active duty", said Joanne Iglesias, the director of the cemetery.

"Every day is Memorial Day for us".
