Tiger Woods breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system

But yesterday golfer Tiger Woods' life hit a new low when he was arrested in the early hours of the morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to the police report, an officer in Jupiter, Florida, saw a black Mercedes stopped in the roadway in the right lane. A police report lists four medications, including Vicodin, that Tiger Woods reported taking when he was stopped for DUI. It said Woods was cooperative but had a hard time walking and keeping his eyes open.

Woods, 41, told police he had just returned from golfing in Los Angeles, but the officer noted that the 14-time major victor also had changed his story about where he was headed and where he was coming from.

In a statement, Tiger Woods said an "unexpected reaction" to prescription medicine was behind the arrest and "alcohol was not involved". Woods said later in a written statement that prescribed medications contributed to the arrest.

"I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved", the statement read.

"I didn't realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly".

Woods had "extremely slowed and slurred speech", the officer wrote. Jail records show that the 41-year-old was booked into jail at 7:18 a.m. and released at 10:50 a.m.

He is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in Palm Beach County circuit court on July 5.

Woods apologized, saying, "I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again".

In an update posted Wednesday on his website, he said the surgery provided instant relief from pain and he hasn't "felt this good in years". PGA Tour spokesman Ty Votaw said the tour would have no comment.

This was not Woods' first run-in with Florida police. "I expect more of myself too".

He initially told officers he had been driving back to Florida from Los Angeles but later stated "he did not know where he was".

Woods has not been able to play a golf tournament since the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February. He was also at the Masters, but only to attend the dinner for past champions.

Woods and wife Elin Nordegren divorced in 2010.

Woods has had four back surgeries since 2014, the latest in April.

He was cited for careless driving and fined $164.
