Ozuna gets some help in Marlins win over Phillies

Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton left runs the bases after hitting a home run during the third inning of a baseball game against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday

Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton left runs the bases after hitting a home run during the third inning of a baseball game against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday

The Marlins (20-30) have won four of their past five games. Miami's three-game win streak ties its season high.

The Phils have the worst record in the majors at 17-33. In his career, Nola is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 16 strikeouts against the Marlins.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to snap a 3-game losing skid and avoid the streak after falling to the Marlins by a final score of 7-2 on Tuesday. Giancarlo Stanton belted a two-run homer. Dee Gordon led off with an infield single, and Stanton followed with his opposite-field homer into the Marlins bullpen in right.

"He said, 'Wow!' I said, 'Thank you.' He was very happy", Ozuna said.

The plan is working for the Marlins, who are expected to start backup catcher A.J. He missed time last year with a biceps strain and was ultimately shut down for the last month of the year. It'd have been nice if he could have pitched a little deeper into the game, but the Phillies pen picked him up with six scoreless innings afterwards.

The Phillies loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but could only manage one run on a sacrifice fly by Odubel Herrera.

This time, Straily will be facing a Phillies team stuck in a miserable rut.

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez has left his team's game at Miami in the second inning because of an apparent injury. He sustained a right elbow flexor strain and was able to get only four outs while taking the loss. It has always been said that Velasquez may end up pitching from the back of a bullpen, and those calls figure to increase with this latest injury flare-up. "We haven't been doing that, so we're going to have to take chances", Philadelphia manager Pete Mackanin told reporters.

Mackanin bemoaned his offense after the 7-2 loss to Miami on Tuesday.

"It was just one pitch", Velasquez said. "We just can't seem to get it going".

This is not good news, but it is also not surprising, considering Velasquez's fastball velocity dipped from 95 miles per hour to 90.9 miles per hour before he left Tuesday's start in the second inning. And it's continuing. I like what we're starting to put together. It's early in the season.
