Stench of corruption hangs around Jared Kushner

Echoing President Trump's tweets, a White House spokesman blasted "fake news" about the Administration and declined to answer questions about recent reports on Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 28, 2017 It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media.

The White House faces mounting questions about potential ties between Russian Federation and Trump's presidential campaign, which are also the subject of criminal and congressional investigations.

President Donald Trump began the day with two tweets, one addressing conspiracy theories involving Russian Federation that continued to dominate liberal media headlines on Tuesday; and the other addressing Angela Merkel's remarks about the US being an unreliable partner under Donald Trump's leadership.

The 36-year-old Kushner, a NY real estate executive before joining Trump's White House staff, is married to Trump's oldest daughter Ivanka, who also is a White House adviser. When asked about revoking Kushner's national security clearance, Franken said that "I think we should look at that".

Trump's retweet comes just days after the president blasted the use of anonymous sources in news reports. "I have total confidence in him", he said in a statement to The New York Times.

The White House is not always troubled by anonymous sources.

Kellyanne Conway appeared on "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday morning to call the ongoing investigation into President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner over improper communication with Russian officials a "rush to judgment".

White House sources told NBC News that Mr Kushner has now been advised to "lay low" while news about the FBI investigation continues to make headlines.

Both Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser Lt Gen H R McMaster have discussed that, and "in general terms, back channels are an appropriate part of diplomacy", he said.

Back channels aren't unusual in and of themselves, and neither is working with a geopolitical foe like Russian Federation on areas of mutual interest.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said Sunday on ABC that USA officials need to get to the bottom of the allegations against Kushner, including if Kushner was not honest about his Russian Federation contacts during the security clearance process.

"There's a judgment by Jared Kushner and the President's team that says, 'I trust the Russians more than I trust the Americans".

He later added a defense of his use of Twitter, saying the media "works hard at disparaging & demeaning my use of social media because they don't want America to hear the real story!" "We have to see where the facts lead us, of course", said Franken, who agreed when the host said, "But we don't know yet?"

Kushner is reported to have advised his father-in-law that sacking James Comey from the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation would be a "political win".

White House officials defended the concept of secret communications channels without commenting specifically on the Kushner case.
