Centerville teen narrowly misses cut after 3 rounds at national spelling bee

A one-letter, third-round misspell Wednesday dinged Dispatch•Argus•QCOnline Spelling Bee champion Daniel Healy's chance to continue representing the area at this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Fuller correctly spelled "nyctinasty" on Wednesday morning, and then correctly spelling "tapas" on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Scripps web site, Ishreet "loves to spell, and she puts in a lot of work when she sits down to study".

Wearing a navy blue dress with a black bow in her wavy blonde hair, Fuller said she planned to compete again next year "if I don't win this time". I thought I did pretty well. It was the ninth successive time Indian American spellers won the prestigious championship.

"I think it was a good experience overall, " 11-year-old Naomi Castellanos, the victor of the 58th annual Jersey Journal-Hudson County Spelling Bee, said.

He's also an athlete who competes in soccer, cross country and baseball.
