UK Conservatives extend lead to 10 points over Labour - Kantar poll

"We will be releasing another poll in the next day or two and early indications are that it will show a further narrowing of the Con-Lab gap", Panelbase said.

The seat-by-seat prediction by market research company YouGov for The Times daily suggested that the Conservatives were on course to win 310 seats in the election - short of an absolute majority of 326 seats needed to form a government.

Sterling fell more than half a percent against the U.S. dollar to $1.28.

But if she does not handsomely beat the 12-seat majority Cameron won in 2015, her electoral gamble will have failed and her authority could be undermined just as she tries to deliver what she has told voters will be a successful Brexit. This means she would be forced to strike a deal with another party to continue governing either as a coalition or a minority government.

As the United Kingdom trundles towards its snap General Election on June 8th, the latest opinion polls suggest that it could result in a hung parliament.

A YouGov analysis has suggested the United Kingdom faces a hung parliament.

During a visit to Plymouth Fisheries, where she met local fishermen, Mrs May said: "The only poll that matters is the one that's going to take place on June 8 and then people will have a choice as to who they want to see as leader, who they want to see as prime minister taking this country forward in the future, me or Jeremy Corbyn".

YouGov, using a technique called "Multilevel Regression and Post-stratification", uses a range of factors including demographics, past elections and voter profiles to build a model which can come up with an estimate of how the vote will be split in individual constituencies.

Other projections suggested May would win soundly.

The newspaper reported a top Tory saying that the party was still expecting a majority of 50 or more.

But YouGov acknowledged that models could not produce estimates as accurate as a full-scale poll in each constituency.

The Times said the YouGov data suggests the Tories could lose up to 20 of the 330 seats they held in the last parliament, with Labour gaining almost 30 seats.

The Times offers a health warning with the polls: it has big variations and suggests that the Tories could get as many as 345 seats on a good night, up 15 MPs.
