Police arrest 12 people over London attacks

Counterterrorism officers raided several addresses in Barking, an east London suburb, and arrested 12 people there Sunday, police said.

Almost two weeks on from the suicide bombing at the Manchester Arena, there was a sense in Britain that - at least for those not directly affected by that attack - life was slowly returning to normal.

Vowls also saw people striking back at the attackers and said he joined in.

Corbyn has also criticized Conservative cuts to police budgets that saw the number of officers nationwide fall by nearly 20,000 between 2010 and 2016 - years when May, as home secretary, was in charge of policing.

They continued: "Finally after much heartache and sadness we are in a position at last to bring our babies home where they belong".

The BBC showed dozens of people, evidently caught up in the attack, being escorted to safety through a police cordon with their hands on their heads.

England has been on edge since May 22, when a suicide bomber killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena.

The incident happened on a warm Saturday night in a busy area full of bars and restaurants.

Medics treated the injured near the market as shocked people cried and shouted around them.

Her second point was to say that global agreements would be needed to remove the online "safe space extremism needs to breed" provided by the big internet companies.

This is, as we all know, the third terrorist attack Britain has experienced in the last three months.

In March, a British convert to Islam ran down people with a vehicle on Westminster Bridge, killing four before fatally stabbing a policeman on Parliament's grounds.

Borough Market, a popular destination for food-lovers, is packed with gourmet restaurants and old fashioned pubs centered around a vibrant food market to the south of London Bridge, right next to the River Thames and in the shadow of the UK's tallest building, the Shard. "People running everywhere, police shouting to run away".

Britain raised its terror threat to the highest level of "critical" and deployed troops on the streets on May 23, a day after the Manchester suicide attack. Several days later it was lowered to "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely.

Witnesses described how passers-by threw chairs and beer glasses at the attackers in an attempt to stop them.

"We were in an Uber (taxi) going toward London Bridge and suddenly we saw people running".

"He's lived here for about three years", resident Damien Pettit said. "They were scared. The police were scared", he said.

The president, who used his initial response late Saturday to promote his travel ban that courts have blocked, returned again to national security.

On behalf of the people of London and on behalf of the whole country, I want to thank and pay tribute to the professionalism and bravery of the police and the emergency services, and the courage of members of the public who defended themselves and others from the attackers.
