British police detain more people over London Bridge attack

Theresa May condemned the attack after chairing a meeting of the Cobra committee.

May said Monday Britain will review its counter-terrorism strategy and consider extending prison terms.

President Donald Trump has vowed to do whatever necessary to protect the United States and its allies from a "vile enemy" that has "waged war" on innocent lives, his first public comments after the van and knife attack in London.

How did the attack unfold?

A Facebook post written by a friend, which has since been deleted, said Ms Zelenak was last seen on London Bridge and witnessed the terror attacks before getting separated from her friends.

However, the attacker was not arrested and no further action taken, he says. "He hit about two people in front of me and then three behind and then swerved back into the road".

Before the London Bridge attack, May's gamble on a June 8 snap election had been thrust into doubt after polls showed her Conservative Party's lead had collapsed in recent weeks.

Network Rail said London Bridge rail and London Underground stations reopened at 5am but the rail station will be exit only.

People from around the world were caught up as hundreds cowered in pubs and restaurants, barricading themselves inside as the attackers stalked the streets.

She described the police response as "extraordinary" and praised an off-duty officer who fought three knifemen with his bare hands when they rampaged through Borough Market. "The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes".

Barking resident Erica Gasperri said she went to the police after she saw a man, believed to be the attacker, teaching the local children about Islam. She wouldn't say whether authorities were familiar with the men before the attack. We didn't really understand the scale of what was going on.

Who was involved in the attacks?

"It's worth pointing out also that we have foiled five attacks, and since 2013 we've foiled 18 attacks", she said.

She called for a review of counterterrorism strategy.

'A detachment of fighters from Islamic State carried out London attacks, ' said the Amaq news agency, which is affiliated with the jihadists.

Samuel Templeton, from Belfast, one of the guests in the hotel, said there was a heavy police presence and they were told to cross the bridge in single file.

A Spanish citizen and one Australian were also injured.

Christine Archibald, from Castlegar, B.C.

The Archibald family said earlier in a statement that she worked in a homeless shelter until she moved Europe to be with her fiance. She had room in her heart for everyone and believed strongly that every person was to be valued and respected.

"Please honour her by making your community a better place".

Ferguson Rowe says her brother, Tyler Ferguson, held Archibald, 30, from Castlegar in British Columbia, as she died in his arms.

Trump's first comment after the attack came late Saturday on Twitter.

A French national was also among the victims, the country's foreign ministry confirmed Sunday. Of these 36, are still being treated, 21 one of whom are in a critical condition.

She said police know the identity of the three attackers but will not release them yet because of the ongoing investigation.

What are the political implications?

Bradley also said officials were working with technology firms to ensure there were no safe spaces for extremism online.

Ameer Hussein, 2, lays flowers near the scene of last night's terror attack.

It is the third terror attack in the United Kingdom in three months, following the vehicle and knife attack on Westminster Bridge in March, in which five people were killed, and the Manchester bombing less than two weeks ago, in which 22 people were killed. Several days later it was lowered again to "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely.
