Jeremy Corbyn: 'The future belongs to the youth - let's invest in them'

Jeremy Corbyn is promising to create a million good-quality jobs if he wins the General Election next week.

However, Labour leader Mr Corbyn, a 68-year-old socialist peace campaigner, has been pulling in big crowds at rallies across the country, brushing off warnings from opponents in his own party that he would lead them to electoral disaster. The Tories lead with the six main pollsters but the margins are all over the place. Or at least one of them.

She has seen her party's lead whittled away by Jeremy Corbyn's Labour but the Tories are still 11 points clear, according to the exclusive ICM poll for The Sun on Sunday.

However the findings contrast sharply with a ComRes poll for the Independent and Sunday Mirror which still shows the Conservatives with a healthy 12 point advantage. ORB put them ahead by nine while with ICM it's 11.

Those closer to Mr Corbyn would argue that he has re-energised Labour, brought in some people who were previously disaffected with politics and encouraged younger people to vote for the first time.

A 2-1 win against Theresa May and the Conservatives at home proved to be crucial although Labour did suffer their only defeat of the season in a 2-0 reversal on Tory territory.

The fact that dozens of seats are not behaving the way they were expected to will undoubtedly make uncomfortable reading for Prime Minister Theresa May. So far this year nearly 39% of visits to Oddschecker politics pages have come from people under the age of 34.

Ruling out raising the levy on such "strivers" is a commitment that all other parties jostling for votes on Thursday should now do, the federation said, hoping to prompt similar, unambiguous pledges from the Tories and Liberal Democrats. Corbyn, who would be in charge of negotiating any coalition deal, has said he would ensure there is a deal agreed and give Parliament a "meaningful vote" on whether to accept the terms of a final deal.

The young vote is notoriously unreliable, as we saw at the last general election when it failed to materialise for Ed Miliband.

May backed the "remain" campaign in the runup to last year's referendum on European Union membership, though she made few public appearances, but has repeatedly sought to present herself as the only party leader able to make a success of Brexit despite giving few details of how she will handle the negotiations.

One is subtitled: "A leader who supports our armed forces or one who wants to abolish them?" If so, there could still be a shock in store.

His model, using a technique called multilevel regression and post-stratification, now predicts May's Conservatives failing to secure an overall majority.

Polling shows that women supported the Conservatives 49% to 35% over Labour in the last Ipsos poll, but this gap has narrowed to 45% and 44%.

However, in a further blow to the Conservatives on Friday, one of its candidates who beat leading Brexit figure Nigel Farage in the 2015 parliamentary election, was charged with breaking expenses rules during that campaign. This is fitting as the Tory election campaign, with May's refusal to debate Corbyn and her empty mantras, has been so negative you'd be forgiven for thinking Jose Mourinho was managing it. That would have seemed risible just a few weeks ago. It was said when May called the election that anything under a majority of 50 would be disappointing.
