Leak Tips Windows 10 Pro for Workstation PCs Edition

Meanwhile, Windows 10 testers who installed the PC build will have to wait for Microsoft to publish a newer build or roll back using the recovery option in Windows 10 settings.

News of the keyboard surfaced after Microsoft accidentally leaked a new Windows 10 build for phones and 32-bit PCs to a number of Windows insiders recently.

In instances where machines handle compute or graphically-intensive workloads, this version of Windows will "optimize the OS to provide peak performance and reliability", according to a leaked slide purportedly from Microsoft.

Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs will also benefit from a new resilient file system, ReFS, which Microsoft notes is the successor to NTFS - it'll be fully backwards compatible, designed for fault tolerance, and optimised for handling large amounts of data.

The new version of Pro will support more powerful PCs, including machines with four processors (the current limit is two CPUs) and memory configurations of up to 6TB.

The release will also enable faster file sharing to facilitate the exchange of large volumes of data across networks. Though, as the slide suggests, Microsoft has still not decided on a final branding for this edition of Windows and it could be subject to change at a future date. "We are including the SMBDirect protocol-based file sharing in Windows 10 Pro for Workstation, which allows for high throughput, low latency and low CPU utilization when accessing network shares".

Windows Insider is an opt-in program for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile that Microsoft initiated in 2014.

Builds that have made it through the internal chain are cleared to reach users outside Microsoft in the external Fast ring; if no issues are found, the builds reach the Slow ring. The build in question, Build 16212, was never intended for release for Windows 10 Mobile, but that's exactly what happened.
