US President Trump Has "Total Confidence" In Son-In-Law Kushner

Kushner has become a key figure in the ongoing controversy, with reports stating he asked Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak to set up a back-channel communication system between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin, run from Russia's diplomatic facilities in the United States in order to circumvent USA monitoring. He is respected by everyone and is working on programs that will save our country billions of dollars. "In addition to that, and perhaps more importantly, he is a very good person", Trump told the New York Times.

After he returned from Europe, the president also disparaged White House leaks and "fake news" from the media in a series of tweets, apparently in response to a number of damaging news stories last week, including the Kushner report.

Kushner met separately last December - after the election but before Trump assumed office - with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to Washington, and Sergey Gorkov, the head of the government-owned Vnesheconombank, which has been subject to US sanctions because of its role in Russia's occupation of a part of Ukraine.

White House aides also told the Journal that "for all the media focus on Mr. Kushner's Russian Federation conversations, he still hasn't been contacted by investigators".

"Jared is doing a great job.", he said.

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker (R-TN) cautioned against "hyperbole" in discussing Kushner's conversations with Kislyak. "I'd let him speak for himself when the time is right".

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, the lone Trump official representing the administration on Sunday public affairs shows, broadly characterized reports that Kushner might have sought such back-channel communications as "a good thing".

Details of the meeting follow a NBC report that Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, is now under FBI scrutiny as part of the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Trump, who had been unusually quiet on Twitter during his nine-day trip overseas, resumed with fury on Sunday, dismissing allegations of Russian Federation ties as "fake news" and "fabricated lies". They say his security clearance may need to be revoked. "#FakeNews is the enemy!"

The 36-year-old Kushner, a real estate developer with no previous government experience, had at least three previously undisclosed contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States during and after the 2016 presidential campaign, seven current and former U.S. officials told Reuters.

The piece was based on one anonymous source who claimed that the Russians, and not Kushner, broached the idea of the secret backchannel during the meeting, which was held at Trump Tower and was attended by Russia's ambassador and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

The White House is bracing for the upcoming congressional testimony of former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey.

The meeting with Gorkov, the Times said, came at Russian Envoy Sergey Kislyak's request. Graham said. "I mean, it makes no sense that the Russian ambassador would report back to Moscow on an open channel that he most likely knows we're monitoring". She has also blamed Comey for public announcements during the campaign that she was under Federal Bureau of Investigation scrutiny for her use of email.

Trump has frequently dismissed his campaign's connection with Moscow as an excuse by Democrats to explain his win over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
