The critical information in James Comey's written statement

"March 30 Phone Call Comey said Trump called him and "described the Russian Federation investigation as "a cloud" that was impairing his ability to act on behalf of the country" and asked what Comey could do to lift that cloud".

At the end of the call Trump, brought it up yet again: "He finished by stressing "the cloud" that was interfering with his ability to make deals for the country and said he hoped I could find a way to get out that he wasn't being investigated".

Calling Comey a "showboat" and a "grandstander", Trump says he had chose to fire Comey regardless of the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Early Wednesday, Trump announced his pick to succeed Comey at the FBI - Christopher Wray, a former Justice Department official who served as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's lawyer during the George Washington Bridge lane-closing investigation.

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

Comey says he replied that he could offer his honesty, and that when Trump said he wanted "honest loyalty", Comey paused and said, "You will get that from me".

However, ABC News' sources emphasize that Comey has been reflecting on events that have happened since his firing: the president's suggestion that he was incompetent; the president openly stating in an interview that Russia was on his mind when he fired Comey; and reports that the president told the Russian ambassador to the US and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Comey was a "nut job" and that his firing had relieved pressure. Many Republicans are deeply concerned about the possibility that the president may have tried to meddle in the Russian Federation investigation and are deeply concerned about the implications of foreign interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Comey's testimony Thursday before the Senate intelligence committee could expose new details regarding his discussions with Trump about the federal investigation into Russia's election meddling.

Comey said Trump asked him on more than one occasion to tell the public that the president was not personally under investigation.

It's been reported that Trump asked Rogers to publicly state that there is no evidence that there was collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign. He has several commitments during Comey's testimony, including a summit on his infrastructure plan in the morning, and a noontime address at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference, but he's expected to have his phone with him.

Comey said he recalled nine one-on-one conversations with the president in four months.

The opening statement describes a dinner Comey had with the president on January 27 in which Trump said "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty", according to the former director.

On this issue, 72 percent say they have "lower" trust in Trump compared to the 55 percent who have "lower" trust in Comey.

Comey testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee, but demurs on a slew of questions about the FBI's investigation, particularly in questions about Trump.

James Comey did not write detailed memos after his conversations with Barack Obama like he did with Donald Trump. "There, unprompted, Sweet Baby James wrote that Trump, ".said he had nothing to do with Russian Federation, had not been involved with hookers in Russian Federation".

NSA Director Mike Rogers says he has not yet received an answer from the White House about whether the president meant to invoke the authority afforded to him to withhold certain communications from the public.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats refuses to publicly discuss private conversations he's had with President Donald Trump.

The contract on Comey's mentioning the phrase "obstruction of justice" implies a 55% chance that the jilted official will use those words.

Because of the nature of a high-profile Congressional hearing, Comey will be asked to repeat multiple things that are already widely known.
