The Detroit Tigers came to the ballpark today hoping to play better against the Los Angeles Angels than previous history.

BRAVES 14, PHILLIES 1: Mike Foltynewicz allowed only four hits in seven scoreless innings, Nick Markakis drove in five runs and Atlanta won big at home, ending Philadelphia's four-game winning streak. He struck out four and walked one. Victor Martinez hit into a double play, scoring Ian Kinsler.

The Los Angeles Angels jumped out to a four-run lead and held on to top the Detroit Tigers, 5-3, in Detroit Tuesday night. The game tips off at 7:00 PM EST in Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan. Farmer has not been as fortunate in two career encounters with the Angels, posting an 0-1 mark with a bloated 12.71 ERA. He picked off Eric Young, Jr.at second base, then got Albert Pujols to ground out with two runners on. Following a one-out single by Andrelton Simmons, Calhoun smacked a single that skipped past Presley and allowed Simmons to come all the way around.

Avila's ninth homer pulled the Tigers within 4-1 in the sixth, and Upton added an RBI single later in the inning.

J.D. Martinez made it 5-3 with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, but Cabrera was thrown out to end the inning trying to advance to second on a wild pitch.

Also, catcher James McCann (hand) is slated to begin a rehab stint at Toledo on Tuesday. His bullpen session Wednesday or Thursday will determine whether he'll make his next scheduled start in Boston this weekend.

After six days of rest, Daniel Norris (2-3, 4.47) all set to take the pitch in the series opener against the Angels.

"Those (first) two pitches are big because you throw it down the heart of the plate and the game could be over", Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Buck Farmer is relieved during the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels, Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in Detroit. The 27-year-old pitched well in his last outing on Thursday, yielding just a solo homer among his five hits over six innings in a no-decision versus Minnesota. He was recalled from Toledo before Wednesday's game, and with Matthew Boyd down in the minors, Farmer will have a chance to make an impact for the Tigers.
