The raids by detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, supported by armed police, are not connected to the London Bridge attack, Scotland Yard said.

Citing intelligence sources, Italian dailies Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica said Zaghba was met at the Bologna airport by Italian intelligence agents each time he arrived in Italy to visit his mother after his initial run-in with Bologna airport authorities on March 15, 2016.

On Tuesday the third attacker was named as Youssef Zaghba, an Italian national of Moroccan descent, who was living in east London.

British police searching for a French man missing since the London Bridge attack say they have recovered a body from the River Thames.

Two men are now in custody on suspicion of violating the Terrorism Act.

Some 48 people were initially admitted to hospital.

Religious leaders of all backgrounds have condemned the attack which killed seven and injured 47 on Saturday evening when three men rammed a rental van into pedestrians then randomly stabbed revellers in bars and restaurants near Borough Market.

Claims emerged that Butt was reported to counter-terrorism authorities nearly a year before the deadly attack after a "violent scuffle" with a member of an anti-extremism organisation.

Italy's top policeman on Wednesday played down accusations that one of the London attackers had slipped through the net of intelligence services.

The Metropolitan Police said they had reviewed security ahead of the vote, putting in place a "specialist and highly flexible operation" which can be deployed as needed. Collina says she told them to detain Zaghba and prohibit him from going.

Authorities also carried out two additional search warrants in east London, police said.

Salman Abedi, the man behind the Manchester bombing last month, also had Libyan connections.

Questions over the extent to which the terror gang were known to security services have been mounting since it was revealed another of the attackers, Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, had been investigated in 2015.

The visible police presence remains, however - as does the memory of the attack in the minds of British voters, just one day before the country undertakes its national elections. Police have made 25 arrests for hate crime offences since the attack.

"There are three deaths and eight injuries on the French side", Macron said, deploring the "heavy toll these attacks have taken on us".
