Chelsea Star Eden Hazard Injures Ankle On International Duty

Chelsea's pre-season plans have already been dealt a major blow, with talisman winger Eden Hazard returning to London for surgery on a broken ankle which he sustained while on global duty with Belgium.

The news will be a huge blow for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte after Hazard ended the 2016/17 campaign with 16 Premier League goals - his best return since moving to England in 2012.

No timeframe has been put on the injury - although he will miss Belgium's global against the Czech Republic on Monday and a World Cup qualifying match in Estonia on Friday.

Belgium midfielder Hazard sustained a fracture in his right ankle training, and will miss this week's global matches.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has admitted that although he's happy at the club, he would consider an offer from Real Madrid if it arrived. "I just want to keep going, maintain this intensity and continue to win trophies".

Chelsea may yet hold out hope of Hazard making a fast recovery so that his preparations are already underway by the time the Premier League season kicks off. "Honestly, I do not know what will happen to me", he said.

"I'm staying calm and we have an agreement with the club as well". Never say never in football, but at the moment it's not something that's on my mind.

Meanwhile, the winger could miss those aforementioned games, with the national team confirming he has sustained a right ankle fracture.

"I am feeling very well at Chelsea. What I know is that I still have a contract for 3 years at Chelsea". I think I can stay at Chelsea for many years.

"I have not met the (Chelsea) management yet". The 26-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. He minimally encouraged these rumours over the previous year, particularly coming off of Chelsea's 2015/16 season. I have two games with Belgium coming up first and I am off on my holiday after that.
