China concerned about reported killing of two nationals in Pakistan

Armed men pretending to be policemen kidnapped two Chinese language teachers in the Pakistani city of Quetta on May 24, agencies reported.

The Pakistani army said Thursday, June 8, 2017 that a recent three day operation, in the rough terrain of the southwestern Baluchistan province, had broken up an attempt to set up an organized Islamic State group base in the country's southwest.

"Islamic State fighters kill two Chinese people they had been holding in Balochistan province, southwest Pakistan", Amaq said.

China early Friday expressed grave concern over the killings of the two Chinese nationals.

"The Chinese side is firmly opposed to the acts of kidnapping civilians in any form, as well as terrorism and extreme violence in any form".

A second Chinese woman accompanying them escaped the abduction while the gunmen were trying to force them in a vehicle.

Senators grill officials about Trump pushback on Russia probe
King blasted Rogers, saying if there is no invocation of executive privilege, "Why are you not answering these questions". The question is "what did Trump ask you to do", not "did you feel pressured or did you feel it was illegal ".

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on May 25 that it "requests relevant Pakistani authorities to take every necessary measure to rescue the abducted while ensuring their safety, and take more effective measures to secure the safety of Chinese citizens and organs in Pakistan".

A military spokesman said the multiple cave complex spread over 10 kilometers was occupied by Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Alami, a Sunni extremist organization known for deadly attacks against minority Shi'ite Muslims in Pakistan.

Baluchistan, particularly its newly expanded deep-water port of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea, is at the heart of a $60 billion Chinese-funded "Belt and Road" trade and development initiative.

Security in Baluchistan has improved in recent years.

A large number of Chinese nationals, majority associated with projects that are part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, are based in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan, including Gwadar port.
