America's Cup Challenger semi-finals

Sweden's Artemis Racing secured an America's Cup Challenger showdown against Emirates Team New Zealand by knocking out Softbank Team Japan in their semi-final on Friday.

In a staggering turn around following Wednesday's scary crash - combined by the impressive work by the offshore crew to get the boat back into fine shape and some superb racing by helmsman Peter Burling's - Team New Zealand surged into the next round by winning their semifinal series 5-2.

"As a group of New Zealanders, we are really resilient", Burling said.

But when the New Zealand crew set off in pursuit, they lost control of their catamaran, immersing its hulls in the water and tipping their towering "wing" sail over them as the boat "pitch-poled" forwards and came to a startling halt. He helped Oracle Team USA rally from an 8-1 deficit to win eight straight races against Team New Zealand in 2013 to retain the oldest trophy in global sports.

“It was definitely a huge day for the whole team yesterday and the guys have done an absolute fantastic job over last night to get the boat back into racing condition today.

While Barker's poker face and sunglasses hid his emotions as he raced, his wit, warmth and wisdom shone through in the post-match briefings, even when things were not going his way.

Ainslie hopes Team New Zealand will be able to renew their rivalry out on the water. Race officials later said Artemis shouldn't have been penalized.

In the first race, Barker was over the starting line early and had to slow to two lengths behind Artemis to clear the penalty.

Percy won Olympic gold and silver medals with Simpson as his crewman in the Star class in 2008 and 2012. After the Kiwis reached match point, Oracle won eight straight races to retain the oldest trophy in global sports.

Land Rover has already pledged to continue backing the team into the campaign for the 36th America's Cup.

That agreement, signed by all teams other than New Zealand, has a clause which would probably see future Cups held in Bermuda. Skipper Russell Coutts handed the wheel to Barker, his understudy, for the clinching fifth race.

While SoftBank Team Japan is new to the America's Cup, Artemis Racing is one of the most established teams, backed financially by Tornqvist, the Swedish co-founder of oil trading giant Gunvor.

Ben Lamb's Team Japan take on Sweden's Artemis Racing in the America's Cup semi-finals in Bermuda.
