Deja vu: Cavaliers roll over Warriors, trail 3-1 in NBA Finals

― Reuters picCLEVELAND, June 10 ― The Golden State Warriors' potent offence went missing yesterday but they were not about to lose any sleep even as their bid for postseason perfection was snapped and championship celebrations were put on hold. And with James' first basket in the first quarter, he passed Michael Jordan for third on the all-time Finals scoring list.

The third quarter featured a confusing sequence and a scramble on the floor that resulted in two technicals, a friend of James being escorted from the arena and back and forth flurries worthy of a heavyweight boxing match.

Later, Warriors center Zaza Pachulia was involved in a pileup of players and delivered two swipes to Iman Shumpert's groin area as the referees tried to get control.

By the end of the first half, it was clear the Cavs had something to prove. Will James be able to power the Cavaliers to at least one face-saving victory in the NBA Finals, or will the Warriors wrap things up in Game 4 Friday night?

- NBA TV (@NBATV)Kyrie Irving erupts for 16 3rd quarter points on #NBAonABC!

James broke his tie with Magic Johnson for most career Finals triple-doubles, with two of his 31 points coming in spectacular fashion - throwing the ball underhanded off the backboard, catching it and dunking.

Kevin Durant led the way for the Warriors with 35 points.

"It was do-or-die. The job is still far from over", Irving said. "We set a lot of records since we kind of assembled this team the last couple years". We are here for a reason.

"And nothing was really going our way, but we were still there". It was their first defeat of the postseason, and their first loss in 61 days.

"Thank God I get to play in Game 5", Green said. Asked to comment on the officiating without getting fined, Kerr smirked and replied: "Nice try".

After winning Games 1 and 2 by a combined 41 points at home, the Warriors had to scrap for all 48 minutes to take down the Cavs, who will need a similar effort to avoid being swept by a team with few - if any - weaknesses.

No team in National Basketball Association history has come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

"We just felt like the way they play, Kyrie and LeBron had it going the whole game, but that's pretty taxing to go one-on-one the whole game", Kerr said.

Durant also brushed off any lingering feelings from his confrontation with LeBron.

"I think taking good shots when we're playing with pace and not turning the basketball over, letting them get out in transition", Lue said.

"If we bring our A game and play smart enough, we'll do it".

Even though Cleveland had a big lead, even early in the third quarter, some social media Cavs fans were still biting their collective nails - remembering another major championship lead gone wrong. "I don't pay much attention to anybody in Cleveland, honestly". "They don't seem to be the sharpest people around".

The Cavs had this flaw for 82 games in the regular season against lesser teams. Stephen Curry finally had his first field goal of Game 4 with a three-pointer with about six minutes left in the second quarter.

"I didn't hear it", LeBron said of the chatter.

"We have to come back home, so we might as well come back with a win". Like, I just don't. If we had a game ball to give it would go to him, for sure.

With an other-worldly Game 4 performance on the offensive end, the Cavs have earned themselves that opportunity.

They also played in a lot of NBA Finals.
