Golden State on cusp of sweep

More drama than good basketball from the Warriors. The champions had 49 points in the first quarter. They've overcome superhuman efforts by LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to win.

The Cavs were determined not to let the Warriors sweep them, and it was Cleveland, not Golden State, which busted Finals scoring records in the first half.

Thompson and Curry sank back-to-back 3-pointers late in the second quarter to boost the Warriors lead, but Irving's inside bank shot pulled Cleveland within 67-61 at halftime. The previous record for a first quarter was 43 - set twice in the 1967 Finals by Philadelphia, against the San Francisco Warriors. It could have been worse: The Cavs missed eight free throws in the quarter.

The game was the most physical yet of the Finals and saw James and Durant come face-to-face at midcourt for a heated argument while a play was being reviewed. But NBA superstar Lebron James, a hometown hero in Cleveland, led his team to three consecutive wins, giving the city its first sports championship in 62 years. G Deron Williams has missed each of his 11 shots in the series.

Game 4 is scheduled to tip off at 9 p.m. ET in Cleveland on ABC. James, a four-time league MVP, will do his best to prevent his Cavaliers from being on the wrong side of history, but even he admits this team is going to be hard to beat.

But coming back from 3-0 deficit against an even more talented Warriors team than the one they needed seven games to beat previous year is a different story.

Golden State can win its second championship in three years by sweeping the Cavaliers in tonight's Game 4.

We will find out in Game 4 on Friday night if the series really ended at the end of Game 3.

Wearing a white hooded sweat shirt, the New York Giants receiver was standing near the entrance and called out to Curry as the Warriors star was walking through security. "You can tell, he knows this is his moment".

Q: Was there anything different in their scheming that allowed you guys to roll to the basket and get your hand on some balls? .

As the ball hung in the air, his plan to win a championship, Golden State's grip on the series, Cleveland's last-gasp attempt to defend its title, all of it was on the line.

That is, except for a massive image of the Larry O'Brien Trophy, prominently displayed on the middle of the floor.

Thousands of fans are expected at the home of the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, having gobbled up $20 tickets for an NBA Finals watch party at Oracle.

The over/under is pretty accurate for how the game will likely play out. The Cavs went the last three minutes and change in Game 3 without a bucket.

Despite a raucous Q crowd, Golden State looked comfortable early in Game 3. The comeback Cavaliers are at it again.

Mind you, no team had ever recovered from 3-1 down in an National Basketball Association finals until Cleveland did previous year. Prior to Game 3, the Warriors were 14-0 and Kerr was focused on getting to 15-0.

"It's part of the rules", James said Thursday, hours after the Cavs fell 118-113 to slip into a 3-0 hole. "So we have to understand that". Golden State was down by six with three minutes left.

"You knew they were resilient, for one", Cavaliers small forward LeBron James said. "And for that one to go in, that was liberating right there".

They did it staring elimination in the face and needing a ideal game to overcome the Warriors and they just about delivered the flawless game in a 137-116 win that extended an NBA Finals most had destined for a sweep.

"There have been times throughout my career where I just played teams that were just in the midst of something that can last for a long time".
