America's Cup: Outteridge, Jensen turn tables on Lake Macquarie mate

Turning his attention to the potential opponent in the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Challenger Playoffs Final, Burling admitted he does not have a preference between Artemis Racing or SoftBank Team Japan.

"We're absolutely stoked, that was a tough race", Artemis Racing skipper Nathan Outteridge said on BT Sport immediately after clinching the series 5-3.

Artemis will now battle it out against Emirates Team New Zealand in the final series beginning Saturday to decide which team will face defending champions Oracle Team USA.

Artemis is trying to bounce back from the tragic death of British Olympic star Andrew "Bart" Simpson when its 72-foot catamaran broke apart while training on San Francisco Bay in 2013.

Team Japan had the early lead but Outteridge outmaneuvered Dean Barker on the third leg and sailed into the lead. "It certainly helps, and that's why we've been pivotal in supporting the framework agreement that Martin Whitmarsh has put forward", said Ainslie.

Many believe these high-powered, but extremely skittish yachts should not have been sailing in such conditions - a point regatta director Iain Murray has angrily refuted.

The sailors are OK other than some scratches and bruises, the team said.

Team New Zealand helmsman Peter Burling told a press conference that there was a "fair bit of damage" to the AC50 - which appeared to include a top section of the wing smashed - though that this was repairable and expects to be able to resume racing.

There was a minor hiccup when BAR won race six with a near flawless display but Burling bounced back from that defeat with a strong start to finish effort in race seven to bookend the day with two great performances.

The next day, the rematch fizzled when Artemis was penalized for a port-starboard infraction, allowing the Kiwis to sail to an easy win.

Team NZ ensured the semi-final wouldn't stretch into another day when they sailed clear to dominate race seven, winning by 46sec.

Artemis led at the start of all three races. Percy won a gold medal in the Finn class in 2000 Games.

This was another painful loss for Barker.

New Zealand's hotshot Peter Burling, the youngest helmsman in the event at 26, and British tactician Giles Scott, 29, both jumped straight back into the America's Cup boats after winning gold medals in Rio previous year.

The comeback win is yet another impressive outing by the 26-year-old Burling as his status in America's Cup racing begins to grow.
