GOP Rep. Collins: London mayor started feud with Trump

Theresa May has finally condemned US President Donald Trump's Twitter attacks on London Mayor Sadiq Khan as "wrong". "When you're working in the aftermath of an attack like that, party politics is put to one side", she said.

In another interview at the time, he also said: "If Donald Trump becomes the President, I'll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith, which means I can't engage with American mayors and swap ideas".

"At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is 'no reason to be alarmed!'" tweeted Trump after the attack, according to BBC.

Khan, a human rights lawyer and practicing Muslim hails from Pakistan, has challenged repeatedly Trump's calls to ban Muslims or people from Muslim countries from entering the U.S, saying the president has a "rude view of Islam". He was clear to note the conditional nature of his rejection of Trump, telling the British broadcaster, "When you have a special relationship, it is no different from when you have got a close mate".

President Donald Trump initially criticized Khan hours after the London Bridge attack and asserted that the mayor was downplaying the severity of the attack and its ramifications in the grand scheme of the battle against ISIS.

After the London attacks on Sunday, the June 4th, Mr Trump used his favourite social media platform, Twitter, to take a jibe at London's Mayor Sadiq Khan.

If London's mayor has anything to say about it, President Donald Trump won't be visiting the city anytime soon.

Khan said earlier this year Trump should be denied a state visit to Britain due to his "cruel and shameful" immigration policies.

Mrs May had faced calls to distance herself Mr Trump for his incendiary remarks but for two days failed to directly address them. "There's no reason to be alarmed", Khan said.

"We have worked with Sadiq Khan in responding to this attack".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said the government has no plans to retract Trump's invitation.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders on Monday said Trump was stressing the importance of national security and maintained the president had not misrepresented what Khan had said.
