North Korea called the system a provocation aimed at bolstering US military hegemony in the region.

Kim Young-woo, a lawmaker with the center-right Bareun Party, said the drone is proof "South Korea airspace has been punctured", local newspaper Donga Ilbo reported.

Joint hosting of the World Cup could help send a message of peace to Northeast Asia, Moon says President Moon Jae-in delivered the surprise message that he hoped to co-host the 2030 World Cup with North Korea, China, and Japan, in a June 12 meeting with Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino.

North Korea has tested a diverse collection of new and improved missiles this year, including an intermediate-range ballistic missile, medium-range ballistic missile, short-range Scud variant, coastal defense cruise missile, and surface-to-air missile.

South Korea and Japan co-hosted the 2002 World Cup but a four-way split is unheard of, let alone between two countries - the Koreas - who are technically still at war.

Seoul's Defence Ministry said Tuesday investigators discovered hundreds of photos from the drone's Sony-made in-built camera.

South Korea and the United States say the system is aimed exclusively at defending against North Korean missiles.

Moon stressed the importance of cooperation with Japan in efforts to denuclearise North Korea, which has been ramping up weapons tests since previous year in defiance of global sanctions. Japan wants South Korea to remove a statue near the Japanese consulate in Busan city commemorating Korean comfort women as well as another near the Japanese embassy in Seoul, saying that the presence of the statues violate the 2015 agreement. He was involved in preparing for the summit in October 2007 between Roh and then-North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

North Korea has touted its drone program in recent years, and South Korean officials believe its military has about 300 drones.

Under increased pressure from the United States and China, the sole North Korean concession of the past year has been its hesitation on testing another nuclear device. North Korea's has used US' military exercises in the regions as means of galvanizing its people, claiming that the exercises are dress rehearsals for impending invasion.

Cheong Wa Dae said that he will be suited to implement the main tasks facing the ministry including North Korea's denuclearization and the formation of a peace regime.
