Attorney General Jeff Sessions Testifies In Russia Investigation

They said they were told their son has been in a coma since his trial - when he was last seen in public - and they had learned of this only one week ago.

Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation in March after the revelations of the two Kislyak meetings. "You're impeding this investigation". But under questioning, Sessions acknowledged that Trump's campaign foreign policy advisers "never functioned as a coherent team" and there were members of that group he never met. "There are none! I can tell you that for absolute certainty", Sessions shouted.

But he says he does not recall any private meetings or conversations with Russian officials at that event.

Sessions was adamant that he did not have a private meeting with Kislyak at that event.

He continued to emphasize he had "no recollection" of talking with the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at the reception in question. "I just don't remember it".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he recused himself from the investigation into Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation because he was involved in the campaign.

The attorney general said he chose to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee in response to comments Comey made to the panel. That is false. This is how it happened.

"I'm not claiming executive privilege, because that's the President's power", Sessions told Sen.

This is breaking news. I wanted to refute immediately any suggestion that I was a part of such an activity.

"As far as I'm concerned, yes", Rosenstein replied.

"Senator, I'm not going to follow any orders unless I believe those are lawful and appropriate orders", Rosenstein answered. Sessions insisted Tuesday that his answer was accurate in the context in which it was asked. If he did have a conversation with the ambassador, it was "certainly nothing improper".

Please hear me now. This was the first time that question had been posed.

Joseph Yun, the USA envoy on North Korea, met with North Korean foreign ministry representatives in Norway last month, a White House official said. I also provided the reporter a list of all 25 foreign ambassador meetings I had held during 2016.

Even if it was meant as a sort of passing joke, that's a odd attitude to take when you're under oath at an intelligence committee hearing. Such meetings are unusual because the two governments do not have diplomatic relations. And asked about Trump's own contention that he fired Comey with the Russian Federation probe in mind, and regardless of any recommendation from anyone else, Sessions said: "I guess I'll just have to let his words speak for themselves". "The documentation, what little I received, was mostly already in the media and was presented by the senior ethics public responsibility attorney in the department".

"You are obstructing that congressional investigation by not answering these questions", Heinrich said. Mark Warner (D-VA) hoped he would clear up all questions relating to the Russian Federation investigation. But Trump undercut that version May 11, telling NBC News that the firing was in response to Comey's handling of the Russian Federation investigation. And in fact, they have not.

He later added: "I made an honest and proper decision to recuse myself". He served as campaign chairman for a few months. Asked whether he would ever take any action to remove Mueller, Sessions said, "I would not think that would be appropriate for me to do". It is a clear statement of my views.

He also called it "absurd" that his own recusal would bar him from making the recommendation that Mr. Comey be fired, noting recusal in the case should not preclude him from managing Justice Department components. Comey said he later told Sessions about the dialogue, and asked that he "prevent any future direct communication" between Trump and himself.

He says he is confident that Mueller will have "the full independence he needs" to investigate thoroughly.

Comey and Sessions met after a routine morning threat briefing. According to long-standing Justice Department guidelines, contact between the White House and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is supposed to be routed through the attorney general or deputy attorney general to avoid the appearance of undue influence. Sessions became attorney general in February but did not recuse himself from that probe until March.

I will finish with this.

He did not, however, recuse himself from defending himself against false allegations. "At all times throughout the course of the campaign, the confirmation process, and since becoming Attorney General, I have dedicated myself to the highest standards". This President wants to focus on the people of this country to ensure they are treated fairly and kept safe. "The Department must be in a position to use all laws available to combat the transnational drug organizations and risky drug traffickers who threaten American lives", Sessions wrote. I know some have other agendas, but that is his agenda and it is one I share.

Sessions said he would "have to let [Trump's] words speak for themselves" and that he was "not sure what was in [Trump's] mind explicitly".

"This is a secret innuendo being leaked out there about me", he noted. The murder rate is up over 10 percent-the largest increase since 1968.
