Massive truck bomb kills 90 in Kabul

"In the light of yesterday events we can not continue to deport, we should wait for the Foreign Ministry's analysis on the situation in the security sphere and only after that decide within the framework of the further", Schulz said.

The massive explosion, which occurred at 8.22 a.m. during rush hour traffic in downtown Kabul, destroyed at least 50 vehicles and damaged dozens of buildings in a wide area that included embassies and the NATO Resolute Support headquarters.

Besides damaging the German embassy, the bomb, which exploded close to its entrance, also damaged the embassy buildings of China, Turkey, India and France, the respective foreign ministries reported.

The French, Turkish and Chinese embassies were among those damaged, the three countries said.

The BBC said a driver for the British broadcaster was killed and four of its journalists were wounded.

The president visited victims of the attack who were being treated in a hospital today; later tonight, he'll address his country on national television to discuss what he called an "inhuman attack".

Afghan officials say 80 people died and 350 were wounded in the attack.

It was one of the worst attacks Kabul had seen since the drawdown of foreign forces from the country at the end of 2014.

The blast broke windows and damaged ceilings of the Korean Embassy and employee residence, a foreign ministry official told The Korea Times, which reported that all embassy staff members were safe.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing that hit in a highly secure diplomatic area of the Afghan capital.

Leaders from around the world offered messages of condolences in the wake of Wednesday's attack.

The devastating scope of the attack in one of the mostly heavily guarded areas of Kabul highlighted the reach of the militants, and it came as the Taliban has been gaining territory in the countryside, raising new questions about the government's ability to restore order to a war-torn nation.

Mujahid says the Taliban were not involved and that whoever "carried out this attack and for what goal, that will become clear at a later stage".

"I have been to many attacks, taken wounded people out of many blast sites, but I can say I have ever seen such a awful attack as I saw this morning", ambulance driver Alef Ahmadzai told The Associated Press.

The death toll has raised to at least 90 people, and more than 450 others were wounded. The Taliban has reportedly denied involvement and condemned the attack on civilians.

The incident took place after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near a military camp.

Also in the area is Afghanistan's foreign ministry, the Presidential Palace and its intelligence and security headquarters, which are guarded by soldiers trained by the United States and its coalition partners. "We wish those injured a quick recovery".

Authorities in Germany postponed a deportation flight due to return failed Afghan asylum seekers, with a government source telling AFP news agency that diplomatic and consular staff had "more important things to do than to deal with organisational matters" so soon after the attack.

Pakistan also issued a statement, saying it "strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Kabul this morning that has caused loss of precious human lives and injuries to many".
