Champion Warriors might snub White House - if invited

It's possible the Warriors won't visit the White House under the Trump administration.

During the Cavaliers visit to the White House to celebrate the 2016 title, Richard Jefferson mentioned that he believed they would be the last National Basketball Association team to visit the White House - which set off a number of debates and discussions about whether or not some athletes would skip the White House while President Trump was in office.

The Warriors claimed their second title in three years after defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-1 in the best of seven series.

Shortly before the team issued its statement, Warriors owner Joe Lacob was asked about a potential White House visit during an interview with ESPN's First Take. The statement added the organization would make those decisions when and if necessary.

Fired up teammate David West said snubbing a White House visit is something he would consider. "I'd be honored to welcome the team to the U.S. Capitol", Pelosi said on Twitter.

"Today is about celebrating our championship". In addition, Warriors coach Steve Kerr has been fiercely critical of the President and a number of his proposed policies. Several New England Patriots players declined to attend the Trump White House ceremony in April, though a significant amount of the team still made the trip.

Curry, who grew up in Charlotte and starred for Davidson, expressed concern in February when Kevin Plank, the CEO of Under Armour, the shoe and apparel company Curry endorses, called Trump an "asset" to the country.

The tradition of sports teams visiting the White House dates to the 1800s.
