Bill Cosby's lawyer attacks one accuser as sexual assault trial opens

"I don't condone sexual assault in any way, shape or form, but, at the end of the day, our court system is set up ... you're innocent until proven guilty..." she said.

"I trusted him" said Constand during her testimony.

Constand testified that she was invited to Cosby's Philadelphia mansion and thought nothing of it at the time.

Constand's testimony is central to the case against the disgraced 79-year-old star of "The Cosby Show", which legal experts say will essentially boil down to her word against his.

Constand said that, after she took the pills, Cosby led her to the couch and she lost consciousness.

And she explained away numerous phone calls they had afterward by saying she was merely returning Cosby's messages about the women's basketball squad at Temple University, where he was a powerful member of the board of trustees and she was director of team operations. They were introduced by a donor during one of the team's games.

Constand, who was 30 at the time, was at Cosby's Elkins Park home to discuss new professional opportunities. He gave her suggestions on how she should wear her hair, how she should dress and how several acting classes could help while also introducing her to those who could help her in broadcasting. She panicked when she tried to move her legs, realizing she couldn't get up. I have no recollection until at some point later I was jolted awake... and I felt Mr. Cosby's hand groping my breasts under my shirt.

Johnson said Cosby pressured her to take a large white pill that knocked her out. But the allegations of only one threaten to send him to jail.

She said she also feared what Cosby might do.

Cosby, sitting across the courtroom, shook his head as Constand described an encounter at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004, after she accepted three blue pills that he promised would help her "relax". He also had her drink some wine, according to Constand. Instead of speculating about Cosby's guilt or innocence, she is leaving matters in the hands of a jury.

Immobilized, she fell back asleep. When she woke up, she said, he put lotion on her hand and forced her to touch his genitals.

She said she continued to see Cosby socially and talk to him on the phone but that it was more of a professional relationship.

"The man that I've known as a child was amusing and witty and smart and philanthropic and full of advice", she told ABC News. But when she reported the alleged attack to Canadian police on January 13, 2005, she said it happened in March 2004, after she'd gone out to dinner with Cosby and others at Central High School in Philadelphia, Cosby's defense lawyers said.

The Fat Albert creator has denied assaulting Constand - and the 60-plus other women who have made similar claims. Constand knew he was well connected and said she felt humiliated and confused.

That incident took place in a Los Angeles hotel room. "Are they herbal?" Constand recalled during testimony. The comedian once dubbed America's Dad could get 10 years in prison if convicted.

On cross-examination Tuesday, Constand conceded that some things she initially told police - her assertion she had not been alone with Cosby before the alleged assault, for example - were incorrect.

Under questioning from Cosby's lawyers, Miller revealed that his notes from her 1996 deposition show Johnson told him the encounter happened in 1990.

Ms Constand has been barred from talking about her allegations for almost 12 years, following a successful civil case she brought against the comedian in 2006.
