Dufner rekindles magic to win weather-hit Memorial

Jason Dufner took out the Memorial Tournament after persistent rain and thunderstorms at Muirfield Village on Sunday.

3 - Jason Dufner is the first player since Nick Faldo at the 1989 Masters to bounce back from a third round 77 and win.

Fowler started the tournament with a triple bogey on his second hole and he was 3 over through four holes when he turned it around Thursday for a 70.

India s Anirban Lahiri fired a seven-under 65 to finish in a tie for second with American Rickie Fowler, who shot 70. One day after he set the 36-hole scoring record, Dufner shot a 77 and was four strokes behind.

But at least he was still in the game.

Summerhays carded 68 for 13-under 203, while Matt Kuchar shot 67 to move into second place on 10-under. And it was playing and practicing with Fowler and Justin Thomas at The Bear's Club in Jupiter that reignited in Dufner - who earlier this week called golf his job more than his passion - the kind of enjoyment that can escape him.

Summerhays, seeking a first US PGA Tour victory, had six birdies and three bogeys in his 69.

Creamer and Kim each shot 4-under 67 to reach 9 under at Stockton Seaview, while two-time defending champion Anna Nordqvist followed her opening 64 with a 71 to drop two strokes behind along with Moriya Jutanugarn Ariya's older sister and Jeong Eun Lee. "And that's why it's such a great golf course because it does test everything. And there was two 65s and I'm cruising, then not cruising (Saturday) and come back today".

Fowler fell back when he missed the 14th green long and took bogey, and then hit his fairway metal into the gallery on the 15th and failed to make birdie.

"Mr. Nicklaus is the only other Ohioan to win this event, so now I join that list".

SHOT OF THE DAY: Yeah, this closing putt from Dufner. All of it added up to just his second PGA Tour victory since winning the 2013 PGA Championship.

Jose Manuel Velazquez put Venezuela ahead in the 29th minute, but the 18-year-old Pulisic tied it in the 61st with his fifth goal in 15 worldwide appearances.

Summerhays fought back with birdies at two of the next three holes, but he faded after the turn and dropped shots at 10 and 11 effectively ended his challenge as he signed off with a 77, finishing six shots adrift of Dufner.

However, his ball found a better lie in lighter rough and he punched his third shot to the middle of the green. Zack Fischer (Little Rock) shot a 1-over 71 and is 2 under.

"I drove it really well", Summerhays said.

"Majors are very hard to win, but I feel like I have the type of game to compete".

For the second consecutive week Marc Leishman shared best performing Australian honours with his tie for 15 matched by OH resident and Muirfield Village member Jason Day, who closed with a two-under-par 70.
