Durant powers Warriors over Cavaliers to claim title

From the Bay all the way to OKC.

OAKLAND-They began the season in an unfamiliar role as villains, a great team that had added a great player to the chagrin of many, a group that knew the only acceptable result would be a championship. "I have no reason to put my head down".

Durant, who joined from the Oklahoma City Thunder last summer, was key to the Warriors' victory and their 16-1 postseason run - the best in the league's history.

"There were 55 second left and I realized, 'We're going to win!' " Durant said. "Our perspective, being blessed to play on this stage three years in a row, it's for these fans, for our organization, for these families. I was anxious and jittery and I just wanted to leave it all out there", Durant told ESPN's Doris Burke minutes after the game ended.

"So I would hope we're more ready, more prepared tonight".

LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists but it proved in vain as the home team came out on top. He scored an average of 37 points over the final three games of the Finals. Irving scored 26 points and was 7-of-7 from the line. The two embraced in 2012 and Durant, the 2017 NBA Finals MVP in his first season with the Warriors, found James to give him a hug and congratulate him on a great series.

Not this time. Though the lead changed several times early in Game 5, it was all the Warriors in the back end of the game.

A win would allow the Warriors to celebrate on their home floor after clinching the 2015 title in Cleveland.

Wanda Durant has actually been getting quite a bit of screen time throughout the NBA Finals.

Kevin Durant had 39 points on 20 shots, plus had seven rebounds. Not to mention a healthy one after his 2016 injuries.

The Warriors stole Game 3 because they're that good, because they have that many talented players. Thompson and West went at each other face to face.

In the third quarter, "Cleveland" with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving managed to get at a distance of five points.

"I couldn't sleep for two days", Durant said. He stole a title last season, but this year he was only able to prevent the sweep in Game 4.

Congratulations, Dubs. We'll see you all again in October.

Smith: No, it's the NBA Finals.

The buzzer sounded and gold confetti began to fall. Past year they became the first team in National Basketball Association history to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the championship. We didn't play as well in the first two games.
