Fact check: did James Comey's testimony actually vindicate Donald Trump?

The US president said he would go under oath to give his version of what happened between him and the FBI Director he fired.

Trump abruptly fired Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on May 9, admitting later that the Russian Federation probe was on his mind at the time.

Mr Trump on Sunday accused Mr Comey of "cowardly" leaks in a tweet and predicted many more from him.

With a single tweet, Trump also castigated Comey as "a leaker" for giving an account of his conversation with the president to a law professor who shared it with a news outlet.

He further denied ever asking Mr Comey for his "loyalty", contradicting Mr Comey's detailed sworn testimony about a private dinner the two men had in the White House.

When he was asked about this, Comey said he wasn't "Captain Courageous" during this, or other meetings with President Trump.

The president and Iohannis first spoke of cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism, but the conference quickly turned to the Russian Federation investigation when Trump opened the gathering for questions. "We were very, very happy, and, frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things that he said just weren't true", he said.

During the Senate Intelligence Committee, Mr Comey accused Mr Trump of lying to the American public when he sought to justify his dismissal as Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

"He did say under oath, you told him to let the Flynn - you said you hoped the Flynn investigation you could let go", Jonathan Karl of ABC News asked. "I'll tell you about it over a short period of time". Comey admitted to the leak during Senate testimony last week.

"I don't understand why the president just doesn't clear this matter up once and for all", said Senator Susan Collins, a member of that committee, referring to the existence of any recordings. The reason: Comey testified that he did so to manipulate the situation and force the appointment of a Special Counsel.

When I hear the Flynn comments, you and I both know my father a long time.

Legal experts questioned whether Mr Trump's private encounters with Comey could be considered privileged. "Yesterday showed no collusion, no obstruction".

Trump, when asked about the possibility of those tapes during a press conference on Friday afternoon, would not rule out his earlier claim that his conversations with Comey may have been recorded.
