Former Government Contractor Charged in First Criminal Leak Case in Trump's Presidency

Solari said investigators have learned victor inserted a portable hard drive in a top-secret Air Force computer before she left the military past year.

Winner posted on Twitter as Sara Winners but didn't seem too concerned with concealing her identity. Her attorney told reporters she plans to plead not guilty.

This June 2017 photo released by the Lincoln County (Ga.) Sheriff's Office, shows Reality Winner.

Neither prosecutors nor Winner's parents have identified the government agency where she worked at the time of her arrest.

Reality Winner has been denied bond in an Augusta federal courtroom. "They say they were able to narrow down the source using the unique "microdots" in the printout, which identify the source printer, as well as the fact that victor had been in email contact with a news outlet, presumed to be The Intercept". She was taken into custody Saturday and was formally charged Monday with the crime of gathering, transmitting or losing defense information.

Victor was arrested Saturday night and taken into custody at a county jail in Lincoln County, Georgia, where she's awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday.

A federal judge ordered that victor remain held without bond after prosecutors argued during Thursday's three-hour hearing that she posed a flight risk and public danger, citing what they called "disturbing" comments found in her notebook.

Winner, a contractor with Pluribus International Corporation in Georgia, faces up to 10 years in prison for leaking classified information.

It will be hard for 25-year-old Reality Winner to get a fair trial if her case becomes "this big thing where we're not going to tolerate leakers", Winner's mother, Billie Winner-Davis, told The Associated Press in an interview. The Federal Bureau of Investigation had already apprehended victor by the time The Intercept published the report.

In February, in the wake of Trump issuing his ban on travelers from several Muslim majority nations, she said: "the most unsafe entry to this country was the orange fascist we let into the white house".

Victor is a former Air Force linguist who now works as a USA government contractor.

She provided support to missions and received the Air Force Commendation Medal in 2016, which is for members who have "distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement and service".

"There's not much to comment on right now as far as whether there is a connection between my client and Intercept", Nichols told NPR.

"If she made this mistake", Davis said, "it needs to be balanced against what she has done in the past and how she has served this country".

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange also has weighed in, praising victor as a young woman "accused of courage in trying to help us know".

Victor didn't hide her disdain for Trump.
