French Open Day 15: Nadal makes it 10

Nadal, who won his 10th French Open title with a resounding victory over Stan Wawrinka on Sunday, has lost to opponents ranked between No. 100 and No. 144 in his last four appearances at the All England Club. As the 2017 edition at Roland Garros began, Nadal's drought without a Grand Slam title was stretching to three full years.

"Happened 10 times here already", Nadal said.

Sport is a sweaty business, and playing sustained tennis at the level that Rafael Nadal does, day after day, generating power every serve, requires energy.

As a tired Wawrinka sliced a volley into the net on match point Nadal collapsed on his back on the baseline.

The pair have contested some of the most memorable finals of the modern era, establishing themselves as not just the two greatest players of their generation, but of all time.

This was arguably Nadal's most dominant performance at Roland Garros.

Since winning his maiden title on his debut in 2005, Nadal has only failed to take home the trophy on three occasions - in 2009 when he lost to Robin Soderling, in 2015 when he was beaten by Novak Djokovic and past year when he had to pull out because of a wrist injury.

Federer, 35, who will return to action on grass at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart on Wednesday (14 June) after missing the entire clay-court season to help prolong his career, clearly believes Nadal is the favourite providing he can steer clear of the injuries that have dogged him in recent times. However, it is hard to say if the start-stop strategy that the Swiss is adopting to prolong his career will lead to more Grand Slam success.

Rafael Nadal dispatched all before him to sweep to his own La Decima at the French Open and he is not intending to stop there.

"This is the most important event in my career". This was the third occasion (2008, 2010 & 2017) that Nadal had won at Roland Garros without dropping a set.

Djokovic was knocked out in the Quarterfinal in Paris while Murray only made it to the semifinal. Except for Stan Wawrinka everyone enjoyed the game to the fullest.

"It's motivation to other players because if it's possible for me, then it is for them too".

Six-time champion Federer - victor of the Australian Open, BNP Paribas Open and Miami Open titles - is next in line to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals and returns to action this week on grass at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart.

"I think today, if you play Rafa, if you're not completely free with what you think and what you're gonna do and not completely relaxed the way you're gonna play, you have no chance". Nadal's flying on the court and that gives him that extra confidence.

A run to final of the Australian Open in January, when he was beaten by old rival Roger Federer, heralded a return to form. If you have no doubts, then you are very arrogant.
